We are delighted to announce we have NAF approval for the first South East Tournament Series. This will be a closed series meaning only set events are included in tournament scoring.

This is a tournament series that is intended to run each calendar year beginning in 2024. For the inaugural event it will include events in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, Suffolk, Hampshire and Oxfordshire.

The calendar for 2024 is outlined below.

This post will be updated as and when event details are finalised.

The series has been increased to 12 provisional events as a couple were having issues with venues and dates, so this way we should ensure there are a minimum of 10 events.

If (as is hoped) we run another series in 2025, we will offer the TOs from 2024 the same slot in the calendar.

In the meantime if any other TOs are interested in running an event in 2025 (or wish to be a reserve if any of the above do not go ahead), please get in touch with the TSO who will also be making a note of proposals. The total number of events will be capped at 10 for each year.

Once the tournament series has NAF approval, we will ask TOs to submit each event for NAF approval as soon as it is feasible for them to do so.

Tournament Series Format

In order to be eligible for any of the awards, a coach must have competed in a certain number of events in the series. Only a coach’s top scores will count towards their overall points total.


The number of events required will depend on the final number of events in the series:
10+ events - top 5 scores, min 5 events attended
8-9 events - top 4 scores, min 4 events attended
6-7 events - top 3 scores, min 3 events attended

This is being included here in case for any reason some of the events above do not go ahead.

For the Most Touchdowns and Most Casualties awards the rules are slightly different. These awards are going to include all touchdowns and all casualties a coach records over the whole series.

As events may have a different number of matches or format, and potentially different rules about what counts as a casualty, taking the top x number of scores may skew towards coaches who attend certain events over others.



Series Prizes

- 1st Place
- 2nd Place
- 3rd Place
- Terry’s Award for Yoof (top coach under 18 as of 1st January 2024)
- Stunty cup (Top placed coach who played stunty teams in enough qualifying tournaments)
- Most Touchdowns
- Most Casualties

Stunty Cup and Yoof Award will be awarded if uncontested, as long as there is a player who is eligible and has played enough qualifying tournaments.

Coaches will need to inform us if they are eligible for the Yoof Award.

We will use the 1 prize per coach rule, so for example, if the winning coach also scored most touchdowns, the most TD award would filter down to the coach with the 2nd most TDs. The only exception to this is the Yoof Award - the winner of this is eligible to win 1 other award.

The intention will be to award these prizes at the final event of the series (if feasible) or the first event of the 2025 series.

Tie-breakers if needed for placings (including Yoof and Stunty awards) are:
1) Most tournaments attended
2) Best x TD and Best x Cas performances combined
3) Best x TD performances
4) Best x Cas performances
5) Bribes offered to TSO
6) Thumb War (best of 3)

For the most TD and Cas awards tie-breakers 2-4 are ignored.

Tournament Series Points

Points will be awarded as below:

Overall Finishing Position
1st place 10 points or the number of entrants in the event, whichever is lower.
Each place below this gets 1 point less (e.g. 2nd place 9 points, 3rd place 8 points)
There is an additional point for every 10 coaches below you (i.e. in larger tournaments you will get additional points for a top 10 finish, and lower placings will also receive points).

Whichever tiebreakers are used in the event attended will determine the final finishing position used for this result. Tournament Series tiebreakers will not overrule this.


Prizes
There will be 2 additional points for winning any of the following awards if they are included in the event:
First place
Most casualties
Most touchdowns
Stunty cup

Other awards may receive points on a discretionary basis and will be announced in each event’s rulespack if they do. If a TO wishes to propose an additional award for a series prize, please ask the TSO in advance of the NAF proposal.

If the tournament has a 1 prize per coach rule and an award gets handed down (e.g. if the coach that wins the tournament also has most touchdowns and the TD prize is handed down to the coach with the 2nd most touchdowns) then only the coach who receives the prize will receive the additional points.

Team Tournaments
Whilst a team event is exactly that, a team event - the Tournament Series is an individual event. Therefore, only individual scores from team events will be taken towards the Tournament Series points.

Tracking the Series

Updates on points will be posted after each event on Discord, TalkFantasyFootball and Facebook as well as other social media. A spreadsheet has been created to keep a track of all the scores.

What is expected of Tournament Organisers (TOs)

To have event submitted for NAF approval asap (ideally before 1 Jan 2024).
To provide the TSO with full details of final standings and awards presented as well as either races used or identifying which coaches played a stunty race.
To be awesome to each other (eg promote other events, encourage attendance at other events etc).
To upload results to the NAF in a timely manner.
To let the TSO know asap if there are any issues.

Will do! None of the events are live yet but will update when they are!

Looking forward to this and trying to get to as many as I can. will there be a site that show's the running totals or is it a case of having to wait for all events to generate results first?

We've not got a website but I'm intending to keep running totals as visible for all - either on here on on the BB South East Discord (ideally both) after each event. It might take a little while as I'll need to get full results from each TO but we should know standings after each event.

As event dates are getting finalised, this post will be updated. Many are still provisional. Until there is a TFF or NAF link for them, the exact dates are still subject to change/confirmation with the venue etc.

Firstly, as a couple of events in the series are struggling to find venues or dates that are suitable, I've made the decision to extend to 12 events, in the hope that even if 1 or 2 fail to get confirmed there will still be 10 events or more in the series.

The qualification requirement for trophies and number of scores taken will remain at 5 for 10+ events. ie even if there are 11 or 12 events in the series, you still only need to compete in 5 to be eligible for a prize, and only your top 5 scores will be taken.

The extra events are provisionally Hastings (summer) and Bexley (December).

Some more of the dates have now been finalised. The Oxford and Ipswich events are currently on sale.

5 events are currently on sale - Addlestone (21 April), Oxford (18 May), Folkestone (12 and 13 October), Ipswich (26 October), Portsmouth (10 November)

The decision has been made to slightly amend the scoring in the rulespack. These changes will be applied retrospectively and I will update after the next event.

The changes have been run past Topas (NAF Tournament Series Coordinatior) who has approved them.

The change means that bonus points are now:

There will be 2 additional points for winning any of the following awards (or for being the coach who would have won them if they had been available).
First place
Most casualties
Most touchdowns (except if a Dungeonbowl event)
Stunty cup (will get points if 2+ stunty coaches OR if TO awards to only stunty coach)

If the event awards a prize, the bonus points will go to whoever the prize was awarded to. If the event doesn't award a prize, then the series will use the highest place as a tiebreaker.

There will also be 2 bonus points for any of the following ONLY if they are awarded during the event:
Most completions/ most passes
Most fouls (or foul casualties)
Most one turn touchdowns
TourMost casualties with or against a specific star player, or against a specific coach or subset of coaches (for clarity this is a bad way of trying to phrase the inclusion of the Suffolk Slayer Award)
Most crowd surfs (or crowd casualties)
Most sporting / best opponent

This list is not exhaustive but I have reviewed all the rulespacks so far and have tried to include everything that is based on the game play (sorry painters, although I've got an idea about how to include a painting award separately).

There areno bonus points for best junior player awards as there is a separate series prize category for this.

In addition, there will be 1 bonus point for second place. This will mean the scoring will start 12, 10, 8, 7, 6 etc. but with additional points for all players depending on the number of entrants.

Best painted in series: any team that wins a best painted award can be submitted for the "Best Painted in Series" (I'll come up with a better name for this).

Please take any/as many photos of winning teams and share with me. At the end of the series if 2 or more entries then these will be used to get a vote for the best team to win a best painted in the series award.
