Cromwell Rumble 4th-5th October 2014 (Team Event) CANCELLED!

Unfortunately due to a number of reasons we are making the tough call to cancel the Cromwell Rumble this year. A busy calender and problems with the venue are factors in this. Hopefully next year we may be able to host it. Thanks to those who had shown interest and to the guys at HDWSBBL (namely Sandwich, thedoc and Callum) for helping to organize and sorry your efforts were wasted this time.
Hopefully see you all at Boudica Bowl III which will happen.

Great news, i do like a team event. If this could be an event that encourages a diverse range of races (like the ARBBL pink n mix did) then awesome. If its another powergamers delight (UK Team Challenge) then shame on you

I'll be in, it being my local! Attempting to rustle up some friends. I might need to invent some, obviously.

Just on this (although I know it's tangential to the thrust of the thread, so I'll not labour the point past this post and derail, I promise) - I'm sure that this was written in jest, but I'm intrigued?
The UKTC seems to have been set up to be a flagship sort of event (not to speak for Bren), and flagship events tend to have straight forward rulesets to attract in the widest possible demographic of coach, including those that don't want to undertake a huge paper exercise before they arrive because they don't play all that often (think NAFC, NAFWC, etc.). Some of the lefter-field rulesets might not be suitable for such an event, because I can imagine the sort of coach that we only see once a year at the NAFC or a foreign friend that isn't used to our tournament scene being a bit overwhelmed by all of the connotations of tiers, various point allocations and whacky skills if they really aren't used to playing that often.
Also, if I were a hyper competitive sort who picked the best roster every event because I was desperate to win, there might well be more in a whackier ruleset for me. If I am 'that guy', and I spend hours pouring over which races win the most in a hierarchical ruleset and overtake the general powerhouses (employing my powergamey experience) that is beneficial to me, because those that perhaps have less time or will to do so won't be as competitive as me. With the UKTC ruleset, every one of us could probably pick the stronger races, so there's no advantage for your powergamer type.
I understand that some really like the rulesets that narrow the gaps between teams, I think the Monkeybowl and Ironmanj (for instance) rulesets are two of the best we see all year round, so I guess that I number myself amongst that group, having just used the Slann / Vampire combo last month. But I also see a place for more vanilla Blood Bowl, and I enjoy these events too. I think this is a different point to the competitive / fun coach debate we sometimes have.
I don't mind what Alex does with his rules, I'll be going to this anyway and supporting my local commish / nerd club. 'Powergamer' is a funny old term - I suppose I'm slightly defensive because I can feel the finger pointing in my direction via the Internet (whether it is or not), but surely if you're the type that wants to run Goblins or Chaos or whatever, you're going to have fun regardless? Or to have fun, do you need to be competitive? Isn't that that powergaming thing we were so down on? People that want to be competitive at the tops of tournaments aren't bad sorts, we're having fun first and foremost too. I mean, I want to try to do well, but I hope that doesn't make me a bad guy, these things are 'tournaments', after all?
That turned into an essay, didn't it? Sorry, this is probably mammothly out of place here. In summary - it's a funny use of the term, and I hope you're thinking of not going to the UKTC because of a more vanilla ruleset. Give it a couple of years, and I think that event might be right up there with the big boys in the country, and I'd hate to see you miss out on the start of it all. I think it promises to be a real BB celebration.
Ahem. Nothing to see here.

Phew, glad I reread the above and saw the itchen quote otherwise I would be wondering where Phil was going with this!
It's a good ramble though and that should always be appreciated.

Mr Goo, apologies for making you to write all that
Was just adding my own personal preference. The ARBBL pick n mix had a ruleset that greatly appealed to me, the UK Team Event does not. Just as tourneys with a shedload of skills allocated dont appeal to me either.
I appreciate that there is plenty of room for both types of tourney, but as the team event was the most enjoyable tourney i have been to was hoping this would more be like that.
There was no finger pointing or accusing going on, each of us is free to enjoy Blood Bowl how we see fit, sorry if you felt like I was having a dig

Don't worry, I didn't feel got at. I just thought the use of the term was really curious and out of place. Looking at the rules you reference, there are orders of magnitude more powergamey room in there compared to the UKTC, for instance. Lots of 'what wins in unfamiliar circumstances' nerd space.
No problem with people enjoying diversity, even if it's forced rather than encouraged. But it would be a hell of a risk trying to attract people to a flagship event (generally trying to encourage more distance travelled) by forcing them to take a roster alien or sub optimal to them.
I hope you reconsider and join the party!
Line drawn, sorry Alex.

Join this party and stick two fingers up to the UKTC! Pgoo is a power-gaming wall-of-text rambler!!
Rules and more info should hopefully be available soon... expect rules pitched somewhere between the vanilla UKTC/NAFC and the wacky WISB-style. Depending on how many of my drunken ramblings get listened to

I may be interested as cambridge is a lovely place and my missus could have fun there with the kids (even though she is technically a member of team events for me)

I'll be in for this - I'll try to drum up some support (and a partner!) from the Bunker crew.

As Sarnie said we have looked over the rules and there will be at least one whacky element that I think we have agreed upon but needs to be signed off by Alex. The rules will then be available.
