Ironmanj Shield III: PURPLEGOO WINS WITH SLANN

Hey Geeks- Come one, come all and experience the greatest tournament gimmick in the world, the hotly anticipated 'Ironmanj Shield III: The Nuffle Raffle' , a NAF ranked Blood Bowl tournament to be held on Saturday 28th / Sunday 29th January 2012, sponsored by 999: The Emergency Services. 6 games at TV120 using the much-heralded Ironmanj skills system. We have the same venue as the previous events, next to York train station.

To be held in Meeting Room 1, on the 2nd floor of:

York Railway Institute
22 Queen Street
York
yo24 1ad

The venue is ideally situated in being right next door to both York train station, 2 public car parks and a large number of shops and pubs. The venue has a lounge bar downstairs, but it is only open on the Saturday from 12.30 til 2.

The Nuffle Raffle
This year we are using the Ironjaw-patented innovation which has revolutionised Blood Bowl! The 'Nuffle Raffle' means nobody who attends this event gets to choose which race they will be using. Instead, at the start of registration a race will be randomly drawn for each participant. Teams will be drawn in order of payee, so all races will be put into a bag and each payee in order will be asked to come to the front and draw a team out. Each coach then has until the end of registration to design a roster to use during the tournament.

No races will be duplicated, so the event is capped at 24 players (I will play in case of no-show/odd numbers).

Each coach is to bring at least one team they are happy to lend out- see Team Pledge post below.

It was used at this year's 1 day event and everyone attending had a great time- just see some of these reviews...

"It was brilliant" - theChosenGobbo
"A great idea" - Zoglug
"Can I take a stunty team instead?" - Don_Vito after drawing Nurgle and then going on to win the tournament.
"There is an issue with the ruleset when I don't win the tournament" - Pippy
"and Yoghurt" - Baby Stick
"Vampires are shit" - Stan WinklePicka, 5th place
"Slannanigans" - Ken
"I came third!?" - Leipziger
" :puke: "- Stick_with_poo_on_the_end

So what are you waiting for? Get to the tournament that everyone is talking about...

Entry Fee
The entry will be only £10(!) for NAF members and £15 for non-members, though this will include NAF membership. Payments can be sent to leon_newton@yahoo.co.uk. PLEASE REFRAIN from using the word "Lottery", "Raffle" or "Ironmanj" in the payment whatsoever.

Just put "Payment for Tournament" to prevent confusion with PayPal.

How To Get There
The venue is next to the train station, so if using that means of transport just walk out of the front doors, turn right onto the street and its the first building you see after the station car park.

If you drive from the South or East, you can take the A1 or M1 and then the A64. Leave this road at the junction marked York West and follow signs for the city centre and then the train station. The venue is on the inner ring road, so if you get lost stay on that and look for the venue (as depicted above).

If you drive from the North, follow the A19 or A59 into York centre and follow signs for the train station.

Parking
There are two car parks next to the venue. Of the two, the station car park should be cheaper. The venue has very limited parking spaces and we won't be the only people using it, so don't count on getting a space! York is served by loads of Park & Ride hubs, so that is another option. It'll cost you £2 each way on the bus, which stops at the station.

Accomodation
If you don't mind a dorm there is a hostel a few minutes walk away: http://www.acehotelyork.co.uk/ There is a Premier Inn right next door to the venue,. but that's a bit pricy though so you might want to check out http://www.booking.com for rooms in order of price. They have built a Travelodge since last year. It's 5 minutes walk away so you should be able to get a cheap room if you book enough in advance.

Things To Bring With You
A painted team.
Your Blood Bowl board (as we won't have any spare).
Dice.
Templates.

Ironmanj Rules
There are some slight changes this year, highlighted in RED

The Ironmanj Shield will be using the CRP / LRB 6.0 rules.

The Illegal Procedure and 4-minute time limit rules will not be enforced, though you may use them if both coaches agree. There will be a time limit for games as a whole though, so if you play slowly we may have to call a result early.

We will be using the standard "Resurrection" rules: teams remain identical from game to game, with casualties, winnings, fan factor rolls etc. not carrying forward.

Undead or Nurgle teams may not keep 'raised' players from game to game.

Team Selection
Coaches may spend up to 1,200,000 gc on their teams.

Coaches may not include Star Players as part of their team. An exception to this rule are Halfling, Goblin, Ogre and Underworld teams, who may hire up to two Star Players.

Teams may purchase all other inducements EXCEPT CARDS & MERCENARIES- Wizards are allowed because Leon loves the BBC fantasy drama Merlin.

If a coach spends less than the 1.2m he will not be entitled to Inducements on a game by game basis.

Skills
Tier 1 skill = Block, Frenzy, Kick, Strip Ball, Sure Hands, Dodge, Leader, Guard, Mighty Blow and Claw.
Tier 2 skill = anything else.

1 point for the first instance of a tier 2 skill.
2 points for any other instance of a tier 2 skill.
2 points for the first instance of a tier 1 skill.
3 points for any other instance of a tier 1 skill.
+2 points if that skill is a double.

No player may have more than one skill. Star Players may not be given extra skills.

Teams have the following points to spend:

9 points - Undead, Wood Elf, Amazon, Dwarf
11 points - Chaos Dwarf, Orc, Norse, Dark Elf, Skaven, Lizardmen.
13 points - High Elves, Humans, Nurgle, Pro Elves, Necromantic, Chaos, Khemri
15 points - Slann, Underworld, Chaos Pact, Vampires
17 points - Goblin, Halfling, Ogre

Games and Scoring
4 games will be played on the Saturday, 2 on the Sunday. The first round will be drawn randomly, with all further rounds using the Swiss system. The overall winner will be the coach with the most points at the end of the day - there will be no final.

Points are scored as follows:

2 points for a win.
1 points for a draw.
0 points for a loss.

Coaches will be paired within Swiss randomly. So you'll still play someone with the same record as yourself, but randomly drawn rather than based on TD difference or the like. Tiebreaker for the winner of the tournament is head to head record. Score does not support this function so it will only be for the winner/runner up etc. After that coaches will be ranked by TD difference, CAS difference, TDs scored, CAS inflicted, opponent score and alphabetical order of name.

All CAS count.

Schedule
Due to room booking restrictions there is an uneven spread of games, but should get everyone home in good time on the Sunday.

Saturday
09:00-09:15 - Registration
09:15-09:20 - Nuffle Raffle Draw
09:20-10:00 - Rosters Written
10.00-12.15 - Game 1
12.15-13.00 - Lunch
13.00-15.15 - Game 2
15.15-17.30 - Game 3
17.30-17:45 - Break
17:45-20:00 - Game 4

Sunday
09:00-11:15 - Game 5
11:15-11:30 - Lunch/Break
11:30-13:45 - Game 6
13:45-14:00 - Trophies

It's a bit intense, but you should all be home for Sunday afternoon.

Trophies
There will at least be trophies for:

Winner
2nd place
3rd place
Most Casualties
Most Touchdowns
"True Yorkshire Grit" Performance of the weekend (judged by me)
Stunty Cup
Wooden Spoon

I hope to see you there!

Leon

Not sure if it's a good thing that this is on my birthday or not, ie is that a perfect excuse to go or will I have 'family' stuff to do?

Sounds awesome though.

Paid for myself and BIG Pete (and you posted before I finished typing this, obviously).

Pete'll pledge Slann again. I think I'll bring my Orcs along (I can supply a few more if you have trouble filling the last few teams up again)

A tournament with Manj in the title? Allowing Wizards? Blimey!

Will get around to it shortly, no doubt.
