Toy Soldier July 2011 - Jimjimany's Khemri Win!

Darren from the Northwest Gaming Centre informed me on Saturday that this year, the Toy Soldier event is going to be held in Stockport over the weekend of 23/24 July 2011.
The price will be
£20 and tickets will be available through the centre's website. I'll post a link here when the tickets become available.
I'm going to be running the weekend for them and they've said I can choose what kind of ruleset I'd like. Before trying to reinvent the wheel, I wondered what people felt about last year's ruleset that Brendan and Geoff put together. If they worked well then we can use those.
Unlike previous years, there is quite a lot of space for Blood Bowl this time.We may well have the same room that the Waterbowl used this year.
If you are interested/have some input re:rulespack, please post below.

Perhaps!
Any chance of it being 6 games this year, or are we held to 5 by other stuff again?

Remind me what we used last year? IIRC it was Waterbowl but teams got 1 or 2 vetos depending on their tier? In that case Vamps and Underworld should definitely be in the 1 veto group. Also, Wizards are lame, none of them please!

I still have the PDF actually:
TV115, Waterbowl Skill packages with:
Veto:
To give some of the weaker teams a leg up, it is possible to Veto skills. All teams are organised into Tiers
(see below). If you play against a team which is one Tier higher than you, then you may select a skill or stat
increase and veto it - the skill/increase cannot be used for that match. Only skills added during the course of
the tournament can be vetoed; skills a player starts with cannot be vetoed. If you play against a team which
is two Tiers higher than you then you may select two skills or stat increases and veto both!!
Note that any vetoed skill or increase will return to your roster at the end of the game.
Tiers:
Tier One:
Undead, Wood Elves, Amazons, Dwarves, Lizardmen, Chaos Dwarfs, Dark Elves, Norse, Skaven, Orc,
Human, High Elf, Necromantic
Tier Two:
Elves, Chaos Pact, Slann, Chaos, Nurgle’s Rotters, Khemri
Tier Three:
Underworld, Vampire, Halfling, Goblin, Ogre
and...
Each team will score a base number of points, which is then modified by the outcome of the game:
• Win: 28TP's.
• Draw: 16TP's.
• Loss: 4TP's.
This score will be adjusted as follows:
• Win by 2 TD's difference = +1TP.
• Win by 3 TD's difference or more = +2TP's (not cumulative with win by 2 TD's).
• Lose by 2 TD's difference = -1TP.
• Lose by 3 TD's difference or more = -2TP's (not cumulative with win by 2 TD's)
• Cause more casualties than opponent = +1TP per CAS (up to a maximum of +2)
• Cause less casualties than opponent = -1TP per CAS (up to a maximum of -2)
(NB only casualties that would generate SPPs count. Failed GFI’s, failed dodge attempts, fouls, off-pitch
casualties, etc do not count).
E.g. The Elfhelm Eagles beat the Dwarf Giants 3-1, but lose 3 elves and do not injure any of the dwarves.
The end score is 27-5 to the Eagles (29-3 for the score, -2 / +2 for the casualties).

IMO Humans, High Elves, Necros, Vamps & Underworld should all move into the middle tier.
Also, it would great to move away from bonus point bingo and towards points for results alone with draws within Swiss made at random rather than by net TDs etc. More tourneys are going this way and I think it is the fairer system. I can blab on about at length, but you might have seen a discussion elsewhere.

I think the complicated points scoring was because it’s a multi-system event with an overall winner at the end, and the other systems had a “degree of victory” system so we needed to have one as well to determine the overall winner.
I’m not a fan of bonus points myself but I don’t think strait up W/D/L can work at toy soldier.
There’s also no need to ban wizards, just cage better

Having run the BB at this event before you are very unlikely to get 6 games. As Jim said its a multi system event and they like it to run so someone can win overall.
I am also not a fan of the rules that were played last year, i would like to see the rules i used at troll bowl, they made the game/skills a little more random. If you are interested in those rules Alex i am sure i could dig them out.
Where in stockport are they thinking of playing?

Northwest Gaming Centre, Olli. Am speaking to Darren this week. Will see if we can get 6 games in. If time is an issue on the Sunday, would people consider 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday?

Ok, have spoken to Darren and the finish time on the Sunday still means only 2 games then. So, we can either:
- Leave it at 5 games
- Play 4 games on the Saturday
- Play a game Friday night, 3 on Saturday and 2 on the Sunday (I appreciate that this would be the most awkward option. I just want to guage opinion).
What do you think?
Oh, and the ticket link should be up and running by this weekend apparently.
