Is this still going ahead? Theres some serious shenanigans going on at maelsrom at the moment, if im not mistaken. Theres a lot of people on the Warhammer forums etc whom have not had their ordered models, and Maelstrom has moved premises under a new name. Try clicking on the link as well, it does not work.

Yes I read the Maelstrom side and miniature trading is in big trouble.
Though I also read that Eye of the Storm (separate operation running the gaming hall) are still doing business. Shouldn't affect the tournament then as far as I can see.

Re: Dobby Bowl 12/13th January 2013
Just talked to someone who has lost money ordering off them. They are apparently still in the same premises, but under the new name. Im not going to touch this with a barge pole im afraid, nothing against Dobby, but the people behind this company have closed down maelstrom, renamed themselves eye of the storm in the same place, making no friends and a lot of disgruntled customers. heres some info:

Understand where you're coming from Daz. Fair enough, it's not good.
I'm hopeful this will not affect your tournament Dobby. Suggestions from what I've read on-line are that it won't.

I've lost money to these bastards, which I'm currently trying to claim back from my credit card. I wouldn't give them an additional penny after their behaviour. The Naf supporting this tournament should be re-thought, in my opinion. Nothing personal Dobby, just majorly pissed off with them and their actions.

+1, Traders of this ilk should not be supported in any shape or form IMHO. I really want to go, but at that venue, no way. The NAF must be seen not to support these people. This is not just about people affected here in the uk, its global, and could tarnish the name of NAF if this goes ahead.

Steady on Daz.
Maelstrom had a rolling trader account with Simple miniatures.
Simple Miniatures sold the debt on that account to Wayland Games.
Wayland Games demanded payment in full imediately and in doing so have forced Maelstrom into recievership.
The owners of Maelstrom have taken advantage of perfectly legal pheonix trading laws to rebirth their company and continue. The company that suffers financialy is Wayland, but Wayland has done what it set out to do and has caused serious and lasting harm to Rob Lane's good name.
I've lost money during this as well, but I'll be attending this tourney and will continue to spend no money with Wayland Games.
Personally I wish those behind Maelstrom all the best and hope that Wayland and Simple get their just desserts for this. I see it as a very dirty and unpleasant way of conducting business.
This isn't the place to have this conversation, and both Ruth and myself hope to see you in January Daz.

That doesn't forgive them taking further money from customers with no intention of fulfilling the orders or for the complete lack of communication to the customers about what was happening either.
This might not be the place to have this discussion, but anyone unaware of what's happened may not wish to support this underhand business, who have deliberately deceived people and stolen money from them in the process.

Re: Dobby Bowl 12/13th January 2013
Er...
Maelstrom aren't exactly guilt free and I don't think they deserve our money.
However, it seems like Dobby Bowl has everything to do with Dobby and not much to do with Maelstrom so boycotting the event seems daft. Boycott the bar maybe? You would probably do more damage by attending the event and then convincing people to drink elsewhere on the Saturday than you would by not attending at all.
Talk of removing NAF sanctioning is blatantly crazy. I would imagine that the last thing the NAF wants to do is get involved in miniatures company politics, especially given how ugly they are right at the moment. Removing sanctioning would be nuts even if the NAF did want to get involved - some people have paid, prizes may already have been bought, and that kind of action would be unfair on Dobby. Messy.

Re: Dobby Bowl 12/13th January 2013
Agreed this is not the best place to debate this.
In short as far as the NAF is concerned, we approved Dobbybowl and will continue to support Dobby as TO. So assuming the venue is still available and the tournament goes ahead then it will remain NAF approved.
Daz, Matt - hear where you're coming from and agree that if people are being ripped off then that is shocking.
But it would not be fair on Dobby or those who have signed up to withdraw support now.
