Ah, progression - I'm out.
Hopefully I can use the brownie points for missing this as an excuse for getting to Thrudd instead.

So what's the tiebreak for teams that win round 1 etc? Is it just random?Blocknroll wrote:Points will be awarded as follows:
Win: 3 Points
Draw: 1 Point
Loss: 0 Points
Each round will be drawn according to the Swiss format with no reference to TDs, CAS or TV
If two or more coaches are tied for first place overall at the end of the final game, TD Difference will be used to find final placings.
And why do Ogres get a leg-up?

Progression tourny? Kudos on getting NAF ok for that, but I'm out. The entire weekend would be ruined if I lost a bunch of players on game 1. And that is possible.

possible for everyone else too, and thats what Journeymen are for. Makes for an interesting strategic choice of team.

But if I lost 3 or my 4 Blitzers, and both WEs (like my last game went
) in game 1, that's my weekend screwed, journeymen or not.

im thinking that there will be a lot of bash.
which is why my wood elves will do well, dancing their way to victory.
or I'll take goblins. you know, because they're funny.

Personally I have always hated the concept of progression style tourneys. However, I'm no longer running the ACC but I'm happy for Blocknroll to run it as such.
There are so many tourneys these days and they are all pretty much variants on Resurrection, so it's nice to see something different. Yes you can lose players and be screwed, but you need a player to die to be gone for the entire weekend.
If you guys don't have the balls to play real man's Blood Bowl, then by all means walk away. If you want to try something different, and have a laugh either through dispair or someone else's expense then come along.
In addition, Blocknroll is putting in a lot of effort to rejuvenate one of the oldest Blood Bowl tourneys still going. Show him your support. Turn up, have all your team die, and show him why progression doesn't work. That's why it's in the Hobbit so you can drink away your sorrows!
...that said, I probably won't be there

Re: Albion Coast Cup 2011 - 27/28th August
I guess if I attended pretty much every UK tourney, then I'd be interested in something different. As it is, with my limited ability to make them, I'd rather play 6 games where I have a chance (or at least lose because I suck!), than pay and then get screwed for the weekend in game 1 - I have league play for that.
And on your point on deaths, when I say I lost 3 Blitzers and both WEs, they were death! 0 KOs, 0 BH, 0 Si's - 5 deaths!

Yeah, but that's because you are Nuffle bee-hatch, everyone knows that!
Personally it's something like this that would draw me back to tourney BB. All the fun's gone outta it for me. Too serious now, not enough socialising, and most seem rather bland to an ol' timer like me. With just two tournies on the books for me this year, this would be something I would be interested in....but then again, this could be considered just shameless promotion.

Re: Albion Coast Cup 2011 - 27/28th August
For myself, I think that it will be a brilliant tournament.
Firstly, it'll be nice to have a different format. I think it will attract a different style of coach and possibly repulse others. This tournament will force some different teams, some odd skill choices and some true randomness. And force coaches to try and avoid stacking their SPP on one peice, which might make some teams a real challenge to play. Second, I think that the impact of injuries could result in an 'unkown' (i.e. hasn't previously won a tournament) winning the ACC. Team management is something that doesn't usually come up, and I for one really enjoy that aspect of bloodbowl. And look at it this way - if you're really worried about the impact of injuries, take goblins or halflings.
My only complaint is the absence of the cards. I blame sillysod.

I'd be willing to give it a try. Might be fun!
I think other progression tournaments abroad gave out a 'Magic Sponge' to each coach. Once per tournament they could use it to replace a dead or injured player for a rookie equivalent for free. Helps to lessen the blow of a serious bumming on CAS.

It's tempting, very tempting.
Like the idea of a magic sponge or some other way of replacing dead players.

we had discussed a magic sponge (or super apo as SillySod put it) and we will again I'm sure, as it seems to be something worth looking at again
