A most excellent weekend! After a hard opening match against DC's flippin' brick wall of a team, I managed a sweet revenge match against Geggster (after he pasted me at the BloodBowl), and another against Al the Trowel (after he pasted me at the BloodBowl), which quickly became a seven-a-side match, thanks to Sweltering Heat.

The highlight was the last game against Buster Gut (the overall winner) and his chaos dwarves. It was the hardest game I've ever had to play, and a thoroughly enjoyable way to lose. (But I must appologise to everyone for it also being the longest game of the weekend. It won't happen again. Honest. Soz).

And it's always good to put faces to some names.

Congrats to Indigo for all his hard work and providing a brilliant weekends entertainment!

Hehehe, yep I finally went 'strength heavy' with a Lizardman tourney team. I had:

6 x Saurus
1 x Kroxigor
4 x Skinks
2 x Re-rolls
3 x Fan Factor

Game One against Madzit and his Skaven was a true pleasure :) . The kind of game that you really enjoy playing for playings sake. An added bonus of scoring at the last minute to win is always nice as well... 2-1

Game Two against Kadu-C. Amazons. GAH! Boy do I hate Amazons! A long, slogging game. Definately fun, Kadu definately uses his team very well. I had a small chance to make it 2-1 but my skinks couldn't quite pick up the ball... A draw. 1-1

Game Three against Hoomin_erra's Skaven. My first re-match of the day. At the Pearly Kings and Queens I absolutely annihilated him. No, really badly. One of those games where he could only roll 1's and I could only roll 6's. This time round was alot better, a very close and tense game where you had to think hard each turn and any little flux of fate mattered alot. To cut a long story short I messed up my stalling a bit and Hoomin took advantage well and made it 2-1. My first loss of the tourney! :(

Day two I was up against Juck and his Wood Elves. Oh no :-? . I had annihilated Juck at the Albion Coast Cup due mainly to luck as well. I was fully expecting to get myself beaten... The very close game finally ended with my skink's GFI into the endzone on turn 8 of the second half with no re-roll:
I made it!! Almost had a heart attack, but I dragged it back to a 2-2 draw :D . Another great game where it could've gone either way but my 4 skinks were still managing to do it 8) .

Game 5 was against Lowsman. He is a fellow gamer of Ronnie who took over as Commisioner of my league when I left Worcester. I sat next to him whilst on the top tables all day on saturday and so was suitably concerned. He was using Necromatics, and a quick count up of his players showed me somthing unusual; he only had 4 players who could handle the ball, the same as me. Hmmm.... A big, big, punch up of a game with him desperately trying to nobble my skinks and me chasing down Werewolves and Ghouls. To be fair his luck was not amazing, but I have to admit I do attribute some of my 3-0 victory to his regular dodging with Zombies...

Game 6 on Table 3 against Torpor. Great, another chap I really wanted to play. I met Topor at the Albion Coast Cup and we were staying at the same hotel. His Khemri were bashing the hell out of every single team who came up against them at Carnage, so much so that in his game 5 he walked away with an amazing 8 casualties :-? :-? :( :o . All of a sudden (and for the first time in the tourney) my team was worried about casualties. Oh yes :( . As it happened I should not have been concerned as Topor was due to have 'one of those games'. It all started with 'throw a rock' seriously injuring a skeleton and got worse from there. He could not break my armour. Hardly ever. When he did he stunned me. K.O at the best. I think I done one of the two casualties I suffered by failing a dodge roll! I mean, I have never seen a mummy rolling triple skulls to block a skink before. EVER! The game ended 4-0 to me and both players vowing to play again when Torpors luck had returned to normal.

Great tourney Indi, I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one!!!!! :D

Great tournament even if I did take a pasting on day 2. Think i'll have to put some practice in before my next tourney.

Here is my Tournament summary

Well I got up at 6.30 to get ready and train it to London on the Saturday,
and I was actually feeling quite alert by the time the matches started at
10am.

Game 1

Kerrunch's High Elves lined up opposite my Dark Elves for the ultimate
grudge match. The tension extended to the fans as the dark elf fans rioted
after the clinical 2 turn touchdown by the high elves to start the game. The
dark elves Gathered themselves and the 5 turns left in the half and drove
down field and levelled the score with 2 turns remaining. But a blitz on the
next kick off removed any chance of the high elves leading at half time and
the score remained 1:1 TD's, 0:0 Casualties. Next half was a scrappy affair
with no one team having a clear advantage. The Dark elves managed to scrape
out a numerical superiority and took a another touchdown. This time the high
elves rioted and when they had calmed down the dark elves managed to hold
out and take the win 2:1 1:0

Game 2

My heart sank when I drew Venomous Breaths Khemri in the second round. But
as things turned out Nuffle was smiling on me. I managed to score and cause
3 casualties and several KOs in the 1st half and Simons moral was broken. As
second TD in the second half and my 1st kill topped off a miraculous win
with me being unable to fail dice rolls (I don't know how long I went
without rolling a 1). 2:0 4:0 But I knew this meant my doom, a repeat of my
bloodbowl performance 2 win in the 1st 2 games meant I was moving to the
sharp end and I know what happens when I rise above my station!

Game 3

Oh NO!!!!! Longfangs Skaven. Nuffle help me please!!! But Nuffle had turned
his back on me after my last game and with the 1st block of the game one of
my line elves was taken off the pitch and fitted for a coffin. 3 more
casualties and 2 touchdowns where to follow in a complete whitewash. Del had
won his 1st 2 games 4-0. It was not my job to stop him doing it again! I
marched my 7 elves onto the pitch for the second half and received the ball.
Punching a hole just small enough for an elf to squeeze through I sprinted
my ball carrier through into the back field and hoped for the best. He
looked very worried, but things went my way and he managed to stay on his
feet and run in the score. 2-1!!! Could I possibly get a draw? Well no, of
course not. Del reduced me to 5 players for the rest of the game and ran in
his 3rd TD. Game over and I was back to the mid tables where I belong 3:1
6:0 (ouchy!)

Game 4

A new day and my performance on the second day rarely matches the 1st. And
being drawn against Necros is never a good way for Elves to start the day.
Lowny had a slightly unconventional team with no wights, so I thought if I
could hit his wolves and ghouls about the place he wouldn't be able to move
the ball. So turn 1 I pick on his werewolf and knock him down, in walks the
Dirty Player and wack!! Stunned :( and to cap it off he was sent off. Now
I'm a man down and things go down hill from there. A convincing quick score
from the necros later (and 2 casualties and some KOs) I line up and
amazingly get a quick touchdown! Level and a couple of turns to play in the
second half. Well it was wishful thinking that I would go into the second
half level and Lowny duly scored on the half time whistle. At this point I
was consigning myself to the loss, but the second half was a very scrappy
affair with no one being able to hang onto the ball for very long. Amazingly
I had levelled the score and caused a casualty within 3 turns and now had to
face the Necro drive! I popped the ball out and it was dully left on the
floor while I took a beating. With 2 turns to go the werewolf tried to pick
up the ball and failed 2 turns in a row giving me the draw. 2:2 1:2

Game 5

Considering the lack of elf teams in the tournament I managed to draw a
second one, this time Wood Elves. Stikki also had a slightly unusual roster,
giving up the speed of catchers for treeman! I'd never played woodies with a
tree before and to be honest I was a bit scared of it! But it although it
turned up for the entire match, it was having an off day and didn't cause
any casualties and spent most of the time trying to catch up with play. The
woodies managed an easy 2 turn score which was followed by the dark elf fans
rioting for 3 turns. I managed to reply in what remained of the 1st half and
the heavens opened with pouring rain. I also picked up a casualty. Second
half was more 1 sided, with elves dropping like flies into the Casualty and
KO boxes, I picked up the score and then held the wood elves off in the
continuing rain for the rest of the game. I even had the chance of making it
3-1 but it wasn't to be. I last turn attempt by the wood elves to level the
score, passing into 4 tackle-zones failed and I took my 3rd win, making this
my best tournament ever!

Game 6

Oh no! more Necros. Nuffle didn't you punish me enough last time? Well as it
turned out it was my turn to punish the necros. But it didn't look that way
when Dan Titan got a blitz on me in the 1st turn. He knocked me down and ran
a werewolf into my back field to disrupt my play. Ah ha! "Maybe fouling will
work this time" I thought, so I got the easy 2 die block and the wolf
collapses in a heap and is dragged off the field. Who needs fouling?! :)
that sums up the game really, I couldn't fail to roll exactly what was
needed to achieve my aims and Dan couldn't break armour or roll for anything
without failing. I was 1:0 up at half time and 2:0 on Casualties, with both
werewolves and a ghoul off the field. I ran in a second after a 6 turn grind
up the pitch (yes dark elves can move the ball slowly) and scored for 2:0.
Three turns remaining and I knew baring a miracle I had the game won, I
dropped my guard a bit and the necros got a consolation score. Final 2:1 3:1

So a 4:1:1 win ratio and my best tournament ever! Should I retire my elves
on a high? Well that depends if Vampires get made official before my next
tournament (and if I ever get them painted!)

Over all a great tournament Indigo!

had a wicked few games and some beers - so excellent weekend.

only ambition to win and get a top table game under my belt, and got my wish. Didnt do much wrong; but nothing worked so got trashed. Was excellent opportunity and at least lost to a quality player. Maybe next tourni i need to gp for best painting - my speed elfs are not really as good as i would like. Cheers again all for a decent weekend :)

I really enjoyed the tournie and was gobsmacked with the result. Del, you had some bad rolls (esp in the first half) in our game - I thought I'd do some sums:

39.5 pts + 0.5 pts for touchdown + 2 pts (difference between draw and win) = 42 pts (oops I can't add up....)

Winning score = 43 pts (by the way I had the same GFI double feckin 1 in another game, though to be fair it wasn't so important).

HDQ Deathsquad's Games

Post by Buster Spleen »

HDQ 1 Dan_Titan1's Necros 0

With no tournie experience and not having played on a board for yonks, it was great to start against a seasoned pro (playing his 12th tournie) and, thanks Dan, for reminding me to roll those Wild Animal dice (PBEM does it for you so, I forget). A tactical battle ensued generally on the half way line. Very little armour breakage and the only difference between the teams was a break-through by the Bull Centaur (but you haven't got break tackle yet!). Worth the risk as it was 75% with a likely win. Take Block for the mino.

HDQ 2 Sminty's Humans 1

Having gone into a comfortable (so I thought) 2-0 lead, HDQ found themselves playing with only 6 players (6 in the casualty box) for most of the second half. It really was last ditch defending against an organised Human side. No fouling during the entire game (due to lack of players). The Bull takes Block & Break Tackle - now we have a good ball carrier.

HDQ 5 Nashrak's Orcs 1

Nuffle favoured the minions of Chaos. Black Orcs rolled block/skull combos with monotonous regularity and the Bull ran in to pick up the pieces - it was 3-0 at half time with HDQ to receive in the second half. This was a more even affair (score & dice), but it was already all over. Hobbo takes Dirty Player (well I'm playing Longfang next!).

HDQ 1 Longfang's skaven 1

Bad dice put the skaven team on the back foot (having received) and gradually HDQ whittled the rats down. The mino was on good form and unsubtle use of the boot eventually helped HDQ grab the ball. However, a lone skaven warrior put down the hobbo ball carrier, so it was 0-0 at half-time. HDQ received and caged it up the pitch. Although a hero Gutter Runner tried, the cage was never really threatened and could have camped in the end zone. But that's not Nuffle. Skaven only need two turns to score (they had 4) and HDQ did not cover well enough. 1-1. That's how it stayed although the Bull made a lone sprint for the winner but was caught. Took Guard for a Chaos Dwarf.

HDQ 2 Lycos' Humans 0

A game of 2 halves in the first half. On one side, HDQ caged the ball down to score in the corner. On the other, 4 humans (& it was probably more to begin with) tried to beat the mino up (blocks and fouls) to no avail. At half time both teams had 2 players sent off, but numbers favoured HDQ with a better casualty count. The Bull tried to get a 3rd TD, and fell over when it seemed easier to score. Take Mighty Blow on 2 CDs (I need the casualties for points).

HDQ 2 Madzit's Skavens 1

The longest game of the tournie and great fun to play in. HDQ failed time and time again to break armour (well Mighty Blow worked a treat then!). The rats scored first with a great move and HDQ equalised just before half time. There followed a slow cage with great defending (Linerats can dodge through tackle zones you know). There was still time for an equalising TD, esp after the mino's double skulls. The pass went astray and the game was over.

Super tournie and great organisation.

I'll add my thanks to Indigo too -

Well done for all your efforts.

A mixture of good and bad during the week-end.

Sometimes I just wish luck was average during a game -

Conceded a last turn TD with about a 0.6% chance of success to lose

Beat Hoomin with my eyes shut since he couldn't roll more than a 1 or 2 until about 4 turns form the end (then all the 6s came together - London buses? - of course this was way too late).

So a 4 wins 2 loss result and a respectable 5th position.
