Indigo wrote:lol the distance thing amuses me too. I listen to a few online radio stations and in the same week two of them (1 based in the US and one in canada) BOTH commented on how the UK was "fairly small" and were surprised that everyone didn't really know each other. Totally serious remarks too.

If they were serious about knowing each other, then they were idiots and unusual. a huge amount of Canadians still cling strongly to whatever roots they have in the UK and have an idea of the population (if not a romantised idea of the populace).

However, the UK is 'fairly small' in North American terms- ask any Russian, they will tell you.

I won some impressive titles in 198X, some more in 199X, even more impressive titles in 200X, some of them REALLY impressive, and a few even MORE impressive! Not to mention a lot of less impressive ones.

From an online-article: "By the way, Europe, at about four million square miles, covers an area a little bit bigger than the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii."

So... how much of the US will fit in Texas? That's about the size of Europe that'll fit :?:

Yep, people tend to forget that europe does not end at the eastern border of Germany as most NATO/EU/Whatever maps suggest right now.

The big part of Europe (at least surface-wise) is the east that's connected to Asia.

Distance

Right. So now take a look at Australia.

Heck - I'd go from My place to Perth - now that _would_ be across Europe for sure.

Australia - biggest continent.

:o That's a mercator projection so doesn't represent surface area correctly.

Land Area:

Code: Select all

UK 241,590 sq km
Aus 7,617,930 sq km
USA 9,158,960 sq km
Russia 16,995,800 sq km
According to the CIA World Factbook.

:?: Back to the topic.....

Personally I want tournaments to be more games, not less. I'd probably just spend that interim period in the bar, which no doubt would cheer up my last opponent.

If you want to go shopping or explore the area, take an extra day off. That's my approach for the tourney in Ostend.
