Granite Bowl marked the midpoint of the Scottish Championships and the first of the 2 day higher pointed Scottish Tournaments. Jamie Campbell (Jayycee) an Aberdeen coach in his first ever tournament showed the old hands a trick or two by winning, while the normal policy of Geordies raiding north and scooping all the prizes was foiled with the highest placed Geordie coming 5th. As Mike was running Granite Bowl, Garrick took the opportunity to overtake Mike in the championships but both Mike_Rushby and Donshula have a tournament in hand now and are only a tournament win away from taking the lead back:

Burger Bowl is the flagship tournament of the Scottish Championships and the second of the 2 day higher pointed Scottish Tournaments. Another relatively unknown coach showed the old hands his heels by winning, the highest placed Geordie was 6th although Pipey did win all the matches he played in the single day he attended. Sadface beat his uncle in the last round knocking Garrick into 4th place and securing 2nd place for himself despite failing to make the first round.

This result catapulted Sadface 3 places up the Scottish Championships to 2nd but with a third of the tournaments still to go it is all still to play for:

Ochilbowl was the third and last of the 2 day higher pointed Scottish Tournaments. The undefeated Mike Rushby took the Ochilbowl title and leapt 2 places up the Championship table overtaking both coaches above him (neither of whom attended Ochilbowl). This puts Mike in an almost unassailable position with only 2 tournaments left to go in the 2017 Scottish Championship:

Geordiebowl, the second last tournament in the series, saw some change below the top 4 but all 3 coaches chasing the series leader gained on him in his absence. This erodes Mike’s previously almost unassailable lead with 2 coaches still in with a chance of overtaking him at the final tournament in the 2017 Scottish Championship series. Nail biting stuff!

Killie Bowl was the last tournament in the series and as the dust settled 4 coaches were tied at the top on 2 wins and a draw so it came down to tiebreakers. If either Sadface or Garrick won Killie Bowl then they would also win the Scottish Championship so it was fitting that they met in the second round after the shock defeat of Mike_Rushby in the first round by Vanguard. Snake Eyes for both coaches prevented either from securing that elusive win over the other and they went into the final round aware that even a win was unlikely to be enough. Sadface faltered at the last hurdle but Garrick persevered. And the result of the tiebreakers was announced, Vanguard had won after beating the soon to be crowned Scottish Champion in the first round. Yes folks, Mike Rushby is the new Scottish Champion for 2017.
