I've read a great deal of discussion about the pros and cons of the team rating formula. Just exactly what is this formula. In blood bowl magazine number two they talk about a formula that only considered winning percentage *100, plus diff in TDfor and TD against, and casualties/5 rounded down.

What should I be using?

The formula for calculating TR is:

(Total of Team's Star Player Points/ 5)+(Total Cost of the Team + Treasury/1000)

It's debated because while it does the job in a simple way it isn't always as accurate as some would like it to be.
