when a player enters a field in which the ball lies, does he have to try to pick it up, or may he choose the ball to scatter one field without suffering a turnover?

you have to try and pick it up

sorry, this is not entirely correct.
If the player moves into the field (due to a move action), he must try to pick up the ball.
If the player is pushed into the field (due to a block), the ball scatters automaticly.

Is there any errata which states what you must do if you move into the square with the ball for a blitz. Does the block that is thrown as a result of the blitz resolve before or after any attempt to pick up the ball while remaining in the same square?

strictly by the rulebook seems fine by me

.
First you enter the square with the ball and thus have to try to pick the ball up.
If that succeeds you can go for the blitz.
