for a starting team, i'd recomend not having a star player just yet as skaven. max out on strom vermine and guttern runners, one thrower, and the rest line rats for a total of 12, 13 if you plan on taking casualties (hwich you will) cant remember the fanfactor, rerolls or apothacary you get with that, but that was what i started with and i have never lost with my little rodents

Not sure you should (or can) max out on Gutter Runners, Stormies and Throwers.. that would be 8 x 80K (if i remember right) right off the bat...

I'm assuming you mean, as you get money max out on SV, GR and throwers.

of course, of course. i dont think star players should ever come before you've exhausted your standard lineup. plus, its more fun to build up your own stars then buy a pre-packaged

since you are a first time player you might want to start with simple tactics and a simple team

2 storm vermin
2 throwers
7 linerats
4 RR's
9 FF

throwers can be used as ball carriers expecially since they have sure hands and are able to pass the ball to any other member of the team in times of trouble, after you get them some skills (look around the forums for what skills to give them) buy some gutter runners who catch the ball the best

storm vermin are good to have around to beat things up, keep them free if you can so they can blitz opponenets when you need to

linerats are damn good filler, put them around the place as meat shields and potential scorers for the thrower to toss the ball to

you'll learn more tactics as you go along, there's alot of places with team tactics around, so good hunting

Gutter runners are the heart of any Skaven team.

yeah, i agree, i dont know how you can start a team without any gutter runners. if you cant afford them, pass up the throwers i'd say. they are essential.

I saw an interesting starting team in BBM #10. The recommended lineup was:

8 Linerats (400k)
1 Storm Vermin (90k)
1 Thrower (70k)
3 Gutter Runners (240k)
3 rerolls (180k)
2 Fan Factor (20k)
Total = 1000k

I would personally scratch one of the linerats and go for a fan factor 7 or drop a reroll and go with the fan factor at 8 and keep the extra linerat.

This would be a good line up for a tournament. Maybe that's what they meant in BB mag #10? (I don't know, I don't have it!)
Go for a high FF. The results on the Kick Off table can be devastating. With a low FF you will loose every roll.

A Skaven team without gutter runners is like an Elf team without AG4 or a Dwarf team without block: it's essential and you'll need them to win.
