Norse teams: Sic transit gloria mundi?

Post by Ragnar Granit »

I have been coaching a Norse team for two seasons now in our leagues (7 regular season games + playoffs per season) and have been doing both extremely poorly and extremely well. In the first season my vikings dominated the league with their blocking (only loss against an undead team) and won the league.

This season, however, they have been doing extremely badly. They were left on the last place during the regular season and yesterday they got dropped out of the playoffs by a really tough dwarf team. The difficulties with the team are clear: although in the first season a thrower (number one scorer in the team!) and a couple of the blitzers made nice SPPs, the linemen & catchers didn't rack up that many points. Even the team mascot (I used to call him my ogre but he seems to spend more time off the pitch than on the pitch ) has got only 5 SPP. The poor guy just doesn't seem to be able to break anyone's AV after many, many, many attempts...

Ok, I am not looking for advice on how to improve the performance of the team - I have lots of ideas on that myself. But I would like to hear from other people who have coached a Norse team 2+ seasons (~ 20+ games) how their teams are doing and do the Norse eventually get left behind all the others in the team advancement. Let me know!

it actually really depends on the skill rolls. I played norse over three leagues (36 matches total)

They actually won the second league big time. I need to say the skill rolls came my way as I have (had) about 6 AG4 players .. that really helps.

Always set the Ogre up for 3 dice blocks. It increases the rate they get SPPs very quickly.

I´m coaching my norse team for 15 games now. They won 11, lost 4. And they are dominating the league right now. Two of the last three opponents conceded the match after 4 rounds. The teams which are playing are all between TR 230 and 260...
And all that without any trait, no AG 4 and no ST 4 player (except the ogre). It seems that they are not able to roll any doubles.
But they are doing good anyway. And its always the same with my team. Kill or get killed. Its really important to receive the ball first, so you are able to smash the other teams ass. The Norse blitzers are weapons. Use them...

Conceded? Wow, you must field a really scary team :o. I mean, no-one in our leagues has yet conceded a game.

As for the other guys - cheers for all the advice! But I'd like to hear more opinions and thoughts from all the Norse coaches out there: do the Norse get left behind in team advancement or are they still competitive after 20+ games?

Scary? http://www.dbb-liga.de/bloodbowl/teams/ ... eam=Wolves
Its the first time ever that a coach conceded a match. But hey thats the norse...
Four blitzers with piling on, three of them with mighty blow and a little bit of luck. Thats it.
I havent played 20+ games till now. But i can say that after 15 games they still very very competitive.
But i also think that you need luck to survive with your AV 7 and without dodge like those damn amazons...

Kill em or get killed....

just wondering
what kind of skill progression table are you using ? Doesn't seem to be the official one.

Yes you re right its not the official one. As a houserule we use a mix between the old and the official progression table.
