LOS set ups on defence

Post by Ludakk »

Hello gentelmen!
I was just wondering what and how you set up your LOS whenever you playin on defence. I have an Orc team, I have 2 blitzers with MA 7 n one of them is ST4. As you know Orcs arent that fast, so some people suggest putting only 3 orcs on the LOS, I'm kinda always afraid to put only 3 on LOS cause I don't want them to get sluagtered, you know? with all the blocks that the other half can thow at them. Also ppl suggest putting more orcs in the bk filed since orkies are slow etc. What are your takes on how to set up your team whenever you re playin defence? How do you do it? What do you do most of the time?
Thank you all!

It really depends on what team I am playing and who my opponent is.
But basically I go with a few simple rules. If I'm up against an AG team and I want to just stop him scoring or delay him for awhile, I set up 3 on the line and put the rest back; usually one square back from their max movement. This makes him make a choice. Either he runs his short of his max MA (which a lot of coaches are loathe to do), or he ends up in a tackle zone and can be blocked, or he has to dodge, blitz and go for it.
If I want to cause a turn over I put 5 on the line and some aggressive pass blockers or ball strippers in the forward wide zone. Then I pour on the heat.
Now if I'm playing against a ST team I put all my big boys on the line and hold it will everything I have. In a ST vs. ST contest winning the LOS fight is crucial. The more players he diverts to that line the less players he has to guard his ball carrier and/or break through your defenses. This will force him to choose to weather the storm and risk casualties (something ST coaches really hate! That's why they have the ST teams  ) or to divert their players away from the ball (and the effectively the game)
Most of the time I go with a 3-4-4 or a 5-3-3 defense.

Orc Hard Line

This is my Favorite Orc Defense. Speed doesn't matter with this defense.

Hi, I´m reading this fantastic forum now for a few weeks and I thought I´ll try now this wonderfull play creator tool.

I don´t think your defense formation is very good becouse with only one block and one blitz (and both with two dice if done right) you can get through it:

And if you play against really fast teams, they can make a cage behind your front lines leaving you no chances to do something against that TD.

There's a hole in every defense somewhere...

I follow the ONLY rule of playing defense. Never give your opponent more than 3 blocks. Bad things happen that way. When I play a new opponent and he stacks the wall against me, I just smile.

i agree entirely why let them have more blocks than necesary. even fast teams can double up on players to get 2 dice blocks and your line can crash down around you ears.

I agree. With a fast team, I'd rather tackle this defence in the widezone, however. Place 2 players in the widezone next to the BO and 2 assists nearby. Move one assist in. 2DB against BO pushing/powing him to the sideline. If he's down, blitz the Blitzer behind him. Run through with 3 receivers. Tie up the blitzer next to the widezone.

Result: 50% of the orcs is outrun already. The thrower is a lonely defence against my receivers.

Posted often and I post it again

But I think that you have to adopt to the situation. Playing a standard formation when your opponent only has 5 players just does not make too much sense...
