The evolution of my lizard team.

Well, for those of you interested on continue helping with my lizard team here I post a small resume of first two matches (played this weekend).

FIRST MATCH (against orks):
I suposed it should be my hardest match due I played against one of the best players of our club. We played at 2 oclock in the morning so maybe this changed the result.
I received the ball on first part and kept in my side of the field untill a hole was open and then send my skinks to his field and protected them with my saurus. I waited untill turn 8 to score (skink n8). My friend made an ilegal procedure (he didn't moove the turn marker) but I forgive him, on the kick roll the referee was hurt and he fouled my kroxigor and sent him injured out of the pitch; this made me feel a bit bad... I tried to be getle and he fouled :pissed:
On second half he received the ball. Put his blitzers inside my field and did a pass to one of them. I used my skinks to surround him and blitz, leaving him prone and getting the ball. I protected again the ball carrier. I scored again on turn 3 (skink n10). Rest of the match I tried to play keeping alive my skinks and sauruses but he badly injured one saurus and apo didn't do his job.
The result: 2-0, one badly injured saurus (14 on the roll so now it's ok), 50k treasury and saurus 3 got mvp.

2ND MATCH (chaos):
This match looked hard too but I was more afraid of having injured players than loosing. I went to this match with only 5 of my 6 sauruses.
I received the ball on the start. Saurus n3 did one dead wich was alive thanks to op. apo (I've got an increase on this saurus!!). On turn 3 same saurus who made the dead suffered a hard block and got an injure, I reserved the apo for harder injuries on the saurus. On turn 7 saurus nÂș 4 did another casualty but on turn 7 was also hardly injured one of my skinks with sidestep. Second half was incredible, with each team trying to score... I failed one TD just because I did a non precise pass, caught, then ran untill near TD zone, tried to go for extra square with one of my skinks and failed... I should wait next turn because nobody could reach my fast skink
The result:1-0, 60k treasury, 1 skink that lost 1AG wich I converted into assistant coach, one saurus for whom I rolled a double 4 and one skink who got mvp and normal increase (sidestep to replace injured skink).

Now time to ask:
What should I take for my saurus? Stand firm? Block? I think I should forget double roll untill having more saurus with block... next match is against lizards and having more sauruses with block can help me to break its scrim line (we have same forces but he don't have block on none of his sauruses).

Definitely block Anca! Then you'll pick up more casualties as well. After that, mighty blow, then guard then tackle then laugh at your opponent a lot..

PS I'm about to start a Liz team, but I need to confirm the most up to date rules. I downloaded rules from the net a few weeks ago, but they seem to have changed since then! How many Krox can you have and are they allies or not? Do skinks normally get access to Gen skills or just Ag skills?

Norse: Skinks just ag skills, 1 krox maximum and he's big guy (read Q&A). Saurus & krox. get ST and Gen skills.
One advice: on league don't get krox at first!!

big guy!! :pissed: bah, humbug!

In the A'dam league, there are a lot of TR200+ teams with some very heavy hitters indeed. My intended starting line-up is 6 saurus, 1 krox and 4 skinks just so my LOS can survive 1 game!!

If we all had rookie teams then I would have 8 skinks and 4 saurus, but in A'dam they would get stomped!

I'd dump the Krox, you don't need him. Buy more Skinks or rerolls, they'll help you more at the beginning. All those ST4 Saurus should be more than a match for any smashy team!

If you rolled doubles for your Saurus get Frenzy. ST4 Frenzy is devastating. Sure he doen't have block yet, but block is going to be easier to come by at a later date then another double roll.

As for the lizardman team list. As far as I am aware you can have just 1 Kroxigor, he is a big guy, but counts as a player on your team, not an ally (the only big guy who isn't). Skinks only get Agility skills now, and suffer +1 to injury and +1 range band when throwing (the same as Halflings and Goblins).

As for a starting line up. For a league I start with 6 saurus', 5 skinks, 2 re-rolls, an apothecary and FF 5. Barring any lost players buy 2 skinks first so you have reasonably substitutes to avoid losing through attrition, and buy the Kroxigor next.

I did take the 6 saurus', 1 Krox and 4 skinks for BB Resurrection, but the Krox contributes more of that big guy fear factor more than anything else. Against tough teams you are betting trying to be nimble and dodge around with a mass of skinks, using a handful of saurus' to blast those holes wide open. Ok you LOS may suffer a bit, but with decent AV it should be too bad (famous last words).

Hope that helps a bit.

Actually Simon,

The Kroxigor is a Big Guy in BB2k1 (ie he is not a roster player and cannot use team rerolls).

However, Lizzy fans take heart. The BBRC will be reviewing the Kroxigor in October to hopefully give him Mighty Blow since he is the only Big Guy without this skill.

OK, 2 things..

1) Venemous Breath, do you fancy coming to Amsterdam to defend your Resurrection crown in July?

2) Don't you think that the big guys need re-categorising somehow? Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that we should do away with bone head, but it strikes me that some big guys are very team specific (Rat Ogres, Krox) while others can join lots of teams (Ogres, Minotaurs etc).

Personally, I do not think ROs and Krox should be allies, because there is no other team they could be part of anyway! I'm not asking for a change to the "no team re-rolls" because I think that balances everything nicely, but in case rules for allies are ever brought back into the game, I think we would benefit from re-defining the difference between big guys and allies. Just a thought.. I would rather see ROs and Krox on the team roster, and a new rule to say that "big guys" may not use re-rolls. I know that's a very minor change which would not affect the present rules, but it would make more sense to me...

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts on a Liz team. I agree about how the team should start ideally, but this is my first go at a team with little guys in it, and I know how useless Dodge is when there's Tackleberries around...

Simon: I've copied & saved some of your posts in BBC board and have lot of respect about your thoughts, but this time I have to disagree with you... It's true that having a double roll is not easy, but nowadays that frenzy is so limited I think it is not a great deal for starters, specially thinking in my next match against lizards. For me, having frenzy without block is having another oportunity to loose turn. In 3rd edition a M6 ST4 with frenzy was a incredible player, able to send out of the pitch nearly all players, but this is not what happen today.
Norse: I think you have read my posts about lizards, and believe me, the best way to start is having 6 saurus and 5 skinks. Don't worry about dodging while there are lots of players with tackle, RR will help you and skinks always dodge 3+

I have to say that, although this could be my team on our league, If I have the oportunity of playing in the tournament this weekend (depends on number of people coming) I'll have the krox, 6 saurus, 4 skinks, 2 RR, 3 FF. I'ts a bit hard because I have to keep alive my skinks but I think it's the best lizard team for a champ that uses same rules as league, but winning all matches is needed. What do you think about, Simon?[/b]

I guess it's different strokes for different folks.. My troll slayer gets himself in a lot of trouble with Frenzy, and I usually need to use up a blitz in order to get him to safety away from the side lines. If I did roll a double with a Saurus, I would probably take Stand-Firm or Side-Step or something like that to make sure my S4 dude stayed put if I wanted him to.. Diving Tackle would also be useful, as would piling on etc etc.. I agree with Anca though, block first, doubles later.... :?:

What do you have against big guys ?

Nothing, in fact I rather like them!

But my point is quite simple.. Rat Ogres and Kroxigors are not 'truly' allies in the same way as Ogres and Minotaurs. I would like a redefinition of the rules so that Big Guys are Big Guys and cannot use re-rolls, but in certain racial cases they do not count as allies...

No, you're right. But moving forward, it may make more sense to categorise allies and big guys differently...
