Hello, gentelmen!
I've head a few times that sertain skills on orc players are good for if I'm into cage scoring kinda theme, like 'Guard', but I don't really understand where a players with that skill would have to be placed when I'm forming up my cage, could you please explain what players need what skills if I were to stick with 'cage scoring'? Right now I have 4 bobs, 4 bltz, thorwer and 2 linemen, one of my blitzers got guard and mb, the other one +MA, 3 outta 4 bobs got block, linemen have no skills, I've always had a problem with cage forming and moving the ball that way because once my cage gets swarmed up my oposition I tend to get all nervious and make alot of meaninless moves, could you explain from your bb expiriense how to deal with all of the above things? Could you show it in code or somethin too?
Thank you!

Traditonal cage:

XOX X=Player
OBO O=Open Space
XOX B=Ballcarrier

Cages are used to keep the opposition from having a chance to hit you, unless they have leap. Unless you have a serious advantage in numbers, or your opponent is poor at defence, it is unlikely that you will be able to rumble the whole field with this. Guards really become useful when leapers are introduced, or you cannot maintain this kind of protection. Your opponent can't get a two die block against you without another guard if you have guards on either side of your BC.

Sideline cage:

SOX S=Sideline
SBO B=Ballcarrier
SOX X=Player

I use the sidleine cage when I'm down on players and don't have enough to prevent the full cage. This can be extremely dangerous to use against stunty or leaping players, becasue if they get next to your ballcarrier, they can push him out of bounds.

Code: Select all

X_G
_B_
G_X
X = player
G = guard
B = ball carrier

That's how you ought to place the guards to protect against War Dancers or other leaping blitzers. Its also quite good for countering swarming as the guards provide assists to both Xs

Against weak teams if your opponents swarm the cage then you need to be forming it with BOBs. They ought to be getting 2 dice blocks, getting rid of players and opening the field up.

Also try to consider where you want the cage to be next turn - and put players there this turn.

The other thing to do is to screen the ball carrier spread the cage out more but keep the same protective screen on the ball carrier. This is much harder to swarm.

Always remember that if you want to spend 8 turns scoring don't bother rushing too many players downfield - use them to work the space and time for the cage.

Can you diagram (with code?) your "screen/spread cage" tactic?

Thanks!

Code: Select all

___X_X___
_X_____X_
____B____
____X____
_X_____X_
Something like that maybe. Much more spread out, just as inpenetratable.

Remember also that you'll want the guys in the front of the cage to be your biggest for 2 reasons:

1. They're responsible for pushing the opponents back and therefore moving the cage forward.

2. They're the players being hit the most by your opponent.
