Wich team is better in a long term league: skaven or wood elves?

it depends.
it depends on how violent your league is. skaven would have an advantage in more violent leagues over the long term for the following reasons:
cheaper players
rat ogre is better hitter
storm vermin get ST skills and have av8
mutations
Wood elves have more skilled players, better throwers, and more team balance. Clearly a wood elf line elf is better than a line rat. A Wood elf thrower is GENERALLY better than a skaven one (tho big hand would make a big difference.)

Wardancers are generally better than storm vermin. If they can stay alive they are probably the
slightly better
overall team.

I've just start a league with woodies,and after 8 games i have a record of 6-2-1 with
Wd:+1AG and strip ball
Wd:Tackle and strip Ball
Catcher:Block and Dauntless
Catcher:Sprint
Thrower:Accurate and Strong arm
Thrower:Sure Hands
lin:Dodge and Guard
Lin:Block and Dodge
Lin: Dodge
I also have a rookie Tree and 3 lineelves.I think that the team is growing well, but our league is pretty violent (chaos,Norse,undead,2 orc teams, plus 3 DE...)and I suffer a lot of cas in this 8 games (26!!-3Dead Lineelves and 1 N.I.)

Skaven. Wood Elves are always in danger of entering a negative cycle, Skaven are just as likely but they are much cheaper so its easier to recover.
Having 2 players with Av8 and access to Spikes and Foul Appearence helps too.

Good question Bio. I like both teams for their advantages and disadvantages, but as far as a scoring team I'd say the Wood Elves due to all players having AG4...

That's a VERY impressive 8 game record. Most coaches would require 9 games to get a record like that.

As Wesleytj basically said I think its too close to call. IME Skaven seem to have done better because they can recover quicker from set backs, but both teams at the top of their games are awesome.

...but the possibility of dodge/block combo doesn't reduce the number of cas suffered? (my media is 3 cas per game....)

yeah i think so. the teams are well balanced. if a person could clearly say "wood elves are better than skaven" or "skaven are better than wood elves" there would be something wrong, and it most likely would have been fixed a long time ago.
both have advantages. both have disadvantages in relation to each other. you could make a similar discussion with all the bb and dz teams ('cept gobs and flings) and would come up with similar results.

i would answer Skaven on this one, just for one major thing: mutations!!

In my league you'll find most developed teams running 2-4 tacklers. That pretty much negates the effectiveness of dodge to protect you from getting hit. Still useful, but not the life saver it was.
As teams get better they get better at causing casualties than resisting them. MB is twice as likey to get a casualty as a non-MB, block or dodge only protects ~20% of the time.

well thats true to a point ian, but at the same time, the defensive skills that help keep you up increase as well. while one guy is gettting block tackle, and mighty blow to make him better at hitting you, the elf is getting block, dodge, and sidestep to help keep himself safe.
and you mentioned most teams have 3-4 tacklers. that's great for the "big" hits, the more important stuff like blitzing the ballcarrier and what not. but an elf or amazon team, for instance, will have WAY more dodge than anybody (cept dwarves) has tackle. so the ordinary hits, lineman on lineman, or whatever, dodge will help. And in the long run that helps because less people falling means less people dying.

Of the two you named, wood elves are easily the best. It can easily be seen by the mere cost of their players. The more the players cost, the better they are. Long term, once you've had time to buy all your positional players, wood elves rule the field.
