Played my mate orcs vs Humans 2 weeks ago and won. We are thinking of entering some leagues after a bit of practise and so my Newbie Skaven meet his Newbie Norse in 2 weeks. THEY HAVE ALL GOT BLOCK!!! Also I've got a RO (quicker I start him the quicker he gets block and pro) while hes got a minotaur. Any tips would be appreciated!
Cheers

As a Norse coach :- Hit Rats hard

As a Skaven coach :- Don't get hit

RO vs. Mino = Some short turns

Standard finesse style applies. Don't get tied down, hit and run, flying screens, use your speed to control the pitch.

Blocks are for improving field position, not getting casualties. Be wary of taking opportunity blocks as they'll burn rerolls, be prepared to take the odd skull if you want to block, don't blow rerolls on them.

Cheers Marcus!
The "friendly" against them has been moved forward to next Sunday. I'll let you know how I get on (I'll still be using my league lineup for this one-off for the practice).
Thanks again - Iain 8)

Just thought I'd add to this discussion with a plea for good Norse tactics, 'cos I'm running the team against Ambler Gambler.

Neither of us has played much for ten years, but we used to have some great games when we were younger. He always seemed to beat me most of the time, even though he played Skaven/Goblins  . I used to play Elves back then, so I'm not sure I've got the temperament for Norse. Still, we should have a Dwarf team to victimise soon, and there's nothing better than that  .

Ambler Gambler - having trouble getting the paint off the mini's, but should have time to paint them before we play.

This is actually the opposite of what Marcus said about skaven tactic, but i post it anyway.
Try to tie them down and hit them hard.
Dont let them use their speed to control the pitch.
Try to blitz his gutter runners as often as possible (use blitzers if possible).
Try to force him to either make a one dice block or to dodge away from your players.

Thanks Asmodan, that's a good start, but should I be throwing lots of one dice blocks myself, or just trying to tie his rats up in tackle zones? As I see it, apart from the Gutter Runners, most of his team isn't that great at dodging. I'm not sure whether I should be playing with the minotaur I intend to get on offence (I'd prefer it just for defence).

Hey Fatlad. You're not allowed on here! Any it makes no odds. I kicked your arse with Skaven and goblins before - with all Skaven victory will be mine EEEK! Remember "Lucky" the elf blitzer head to head vs "Cunning" the goblin lineman? History repeats itself Fatlad, you are going down.
(Maniacal squeak!) :pissed:

PS: We are playing "tag" bloodbowl arent we, not the one where we really hit each other?

Skipping Norse

Watcha Amber Gambler, just getting myself some inside info.

Yes I remember Lucky the Elf :-? . Never should have called him that. Sven the viking on the other hand will be skipping with a rat ogre's tail before the games out.

Do you still want the rats painted purple and yellow?

Cheers Colonel! Purple and yellow would be top. Skipping? Bit girly isnt it? Whats next - Hopscotch?! And I bet all your team sound like cheap porn stars!!!!! "I am Sven and I have come to fix your pipes etc..."
anyway I am sure the best team will win. Was bloody close last time. Never knew black Orcs made suxh good recievers.........
See ya soon! :smoking:

Always try to make two dice blocks if possible.
But you can make those one dice blocks as you have the block skill, but i would only have done that at the end of my turn, so that in case something went wrong it would not really matter.

And use the mino if you can.
Its no point in having it on the bench, just be sure that you protect him so that he don“t have to make any one dice or two dice against blocks.

With skaven, if you don't want a RO vs Mino turn over clash then another handy thing to do is keep you Rat ogre back, use him for defense instead, i do this against wood elves once that infernal str6 treeman is unleashed, the movement 6 means you can blitz into ANYBODY who runs through your lines with the ball, at worst with 1 single GFI roll!
Then use three expendables for the mino! Score the goals and rely on lucky Kick off rolls!

If someone brings a treeman I leave my ratogre off the pitch. I can't think of a single good reason to bring him on.
