Blunderbus Usage...anybody recommend it?

OK, this is like my 4th Chaos Dwarf post of the week; what can I say? I like this board :)

I'm looking for any advice folks might have on using the Blunderbus. I found a cool old model with one, painted it in my team colors, and I'm hoping to add it to my roster asap.

I know that one thing to do is not use it until near or at the end of my turn, since it's a 50% chance of being inaccurate...any other tips?

Thanks in advance lads (and lasses)!

Didn't think agility mattered. I thought it was 1-3 scatters like a kickoff, 4-6 accurate.

Your forgetting one thing, how does he get the ball in the first place, if u dont get a touchback?

Ah, you were referring to picking it up. Yeah, good point. It's 50/50...maybe I should go with a Hobbo :)

No no no, you have to go with a Chaos Dwarf, it fits the fluff and it looks way cooler. Just give him Sure Hands as his first skill.

Hi, I've played with chaos dwarf since 3 ed. (with this I don't want to say I'm a guru of chaos dwarves, I only want to say that this tactic works) and always have a player with blunderbuss (star player or not), and he is allways a Dwarf.
First of all because I haven't so much happy whith the idea of make a conversion of a hobboglin (all my team are conversions of warhammer miniatures, with the exception of Hthark, and I'm tired). Second because the background: the hobgoblins are slaves of chaos dwarf and it's obvious that the dwarf wouldn't give an expensive weapon to a slave.

It's dificult to a dwarf to pick up the ball, OK you are right, but it's my last action of the turn. Then I'm shure that if I miss the action, it doesn't matter because it's my last action. Then you can think the other team can come and pick the ball instead of my dwarf, but you must think in the Chaos dwarf blockers and in the bull centaurs, they are very hard defence.

The other question is who will catch the ball?
Obviously every body think in a hobgoblin (although a bullcentaur manages to catch one time to make the Victory TD, but this is another history). The tactic I'm used to play is "green slick" (i'm not shure that it's correct, is "Marea Verde" in spanish) well I explain it: I try to have as many hobgolins as I can in opponent's touchdown zone and then ... roulette (they arrive there like the oil on water, they sneak in). It's the tactic on the paper, on the pitch only one or two hobgoblins manage to arrive in oponent's TD zone.
A second part of the tactic is my Hobgoblin "captain": "Pass it to Me" (My avatar is a pic of him, if you watch him you understand quickly second part of the tactic). When I deploy my team the opponent see my blunderbuss 8) (... the miniature of chaos dawrf) and "Pass it to Me". I'm sure he see him because I pick him and I say something like this: "This is captain of my team "Pass it to Me", and the dwarf over there has a Blunderbuss ...". Whith this the opponent forget the other hobgoblins since my "captain" is KO :( . This give the chance to all other hobgoblins to arrive at the TD zone :D . When the opponent realizes what is happen or it's too late or him/her manages to block all hobgoblins, but then he forget "Pass it to Me", and he can try to took a good position to do a TD :o .
It uses to work, but not allways. If it doesn't work you only have one way ... pain, lots of it.

This is all my knowedelge of Blunderbuss. I hope all of this help you.

There's way too much luck involved in that play. Better to pick up the ball with a hobgoblin, hand it off to a bull centaur and run it in! It's the typical chaos dwarf play, and for obvious reasons!

Maybe winning isn't his first priority, Zombie?

Maybe he wants to have fun? I freebooted a deathroller all the time. It;s fun! It won't help me win and usually it only plays for one half but what the hell?

Pariah wins the prize :)

Granted, I want to do decently well (win some of my games), but if I were all about optimizing things, I'd play Skaven.

Honestly, I just finished painting my team, and got a cool blunderbus model, and I wanted to get tips on how to use him. Thanks for the input so far though, and I appreciate your point Zombie.

If it's not about winning, then it shouldn't be posted in the "tactics and team development" forum when someone is asking for good tactical and strategic advice.

OK it maybe works. But, always thera are a but, I ask you: How many Ag have BullCentaur? I think it's 2, isn't it? Then, with a hand off to a bullcentaur you need 4+ like a Dwarf picking the ball from the ground.

Then you need as luky as I need.

And like Pariah wrote, I play to enjoy, for fun; but to win. I don't want win over all the things. First of all I want to enjoy with the game, then I want to win. And I don't lose too much matches because if I can't use the blunderbuss I'm not defenceless. Think about hobgoblins, they are like human lines but with -1 Ar (they can do lots of things), and with chaos dwarfs and bull centaurs, I have an Iron Wall.

It's much easier because once you've made that 4+ roll (with team reroll handy of course) catch, there's pretty much no roll left to make and your bull centaur can take whatever time he wants to score, as nobody will be able to stop him. Much better than picking up the ball at 4+, throwing it at 4+ and catching it at 3+. Play to your strength. The strength of chaos dwarves is the running game, not the passing game. If you find a passing game to be more fun, i suggest you try playing elves. That will be more "fun" for you.

Calm down, man, not everything is a binary option.

As I said clearly in my response to Pariah, I do want to play well, but I ALSO have a motivation to enjoy the different models and try different things out. So I started on thread on advice for using the Blunderbus successfully.

And your post basically saying "don't use it" isn't really helpful. I know you have much more to offer tactics-wise, and I'd love to hear it. If you can't bring yourself to endorse any usage of the 'bus, I understand. And I guess in a way it's valid input 8)

The strength of Bullcentaurs is running game. The strenght of Chaos Dwarves isn't running game, they are good in "walking game" .
I only explain how I use the Blunderbuss. I don't play all games with it, then I use other tactics. I like to try passing game (hobgoblins aren't too bad as they seem), and other stiles, like running or crushing.

About elves ... well ... it offends me :pissed: (not too much really :) ). I play with humans before elves. Passing game with elves is too easy, it isn't a challenge. I must to recognize I'd like suffering in the games. If you are sure that the TD is done when you pick the ball, then it isn't so exciting. The euphoria when you do a TD with hard work is bigger than the joy of doing an easy TD.
I play to feel this sensation as times as I can. And usually I enjoy all the matches, it's indifferent that all my players go down if I enjoy the match (well after the match I'm sad if this happens, but if I enjoy the game at least it isn't too bad).
