hello,
after i painted all my skaven, i was looking for a 2nd team to have just for something diffrent. skaven being what they are, i wanted to get a hitting team. first i went for norse, but after the responce of my post on them, i went looking for a diffrent team. orks would be ok, but EVERY body plays them! so i ended up on dwarfs. they look pretty cool, with your basic lineman having block, tackle, and thickskull. i spent some time yesterday looking at old posts on dwarfs and found out alot on how to play them, but all the posts on starting them are for leages. so, heres my question:
first, what is a good starting roster for a non leage team?

2nd, if i set up with the 3-4-4(from what i read, this looks like one of the better plays) do i put my slayers on the front line? or keep them in the back and blitz if someone makes it through?

3rd, if i set up with a normal line defence, do i want to keep my line? or follow up on my blocks?

4th just to make sure, for offence, i pretty much play just like defence right?

5th i know theres split views on this, but should i use and orge?

thanks a lot

Starting Dwarfs:

2 Runners
2 Blitzers
7 LongBeards
3 Re-Rolls
7 Fan Factor

For more info about Dwarfs see:
http://www.talkbloodbowl.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3410
Scroll down to my post if ya wanna know why I use that Roster.

Reguarding defense... 3-4-4 is usually not a good idea with Dwarfs. Against a fast team they can hit the front line and get Catchers deep beyond how far your Dwarfs can run back.
Try to set up some players deeper, and early in the team existance, keep some of the LongBeards deep, because with Block/Tackle they are you best players to Blitz other peoples Catchers with. Also, using the LongBeards to do Blitz all the time means they have more chance to get CAS, which is there only real way to get SPP.

For reference, this is my Fumbbl Dwarf team:

If it was a one-off I would go for

Grim IronJaw
2 slayers
1 Blitzer
1 Runner
6 LongBeards
2 rerolls
FF 1

That team would have a good hitting base, I would play it 5-4-2 and have grim in the middle of the LOS and then 2 LBs either side and one in each wide zone supported by a slayer to hinder the catchers/runners

keep the blitzer and a runner back to hurt any that get through and then pick the ball up and plod downfield

If you don“t play in a league i suggest you take 2 troll slayers instead of 2 longbeards, because you need more than 2 AG3 players.

Longbeards are NOT basic linemen. Right out of the box they're a formidable line. As near as I can tell, they're also the most played team around. That may be differen't where you are but I'd say otherwise.

As for the 3-4-4 play. Just have the 4's spread with spaces in between (front to back). It helps conpensate for dwarves being slower than molasses.

What? :o

Star players can be used (freeboot 'em) unless you're playing in a league which says otherwise.

Freeboot is to expensive for Morg N Thorg. Esp. for only to be used for one game!

I had started with a pretty wierd Dwarven Cockerel:

2 Blitzers
2 Troll Slayers
1 Ogre
6 Longbeards
2 RR
rest FF
no APOTH

First match i lost one of the Troll Slayers, and due lack of money, i counl not buy a Runner, so i had to buy another Longbeard just to make them 11 on the field. The Blitzers were my only AG3 ball handlers, but i manage to take some focus out of them, and i won 5 games in a row.

It took another Dwarven team to kick me on my sixth game, in one of those matches decided after seeing my opponent blitz me with 2 die i chose, plus 4+ dodge, 4+ take ball, 3+ dodge .. with no rerolls. A really nice game!

So i guess, i would take at least one more runner, and one less trollslayer on a starting lineup, but i would take the ogre, for sure!
