HobGoblin with AV 6 and no SSPs - should he go?

Post by scrollmaster »

I have a HobGoblin with not a single SSP and in a previous game he got AV-1, so I have been thinking whether it is worth replacing him before he soakes up some SSP (and in worst case an MVP)

My first thought was "No" but after last match I have enough gold to buy the last HobGoblin for my team AND I still have 50k to spare which would be enough to replace him with.

what do you think? Would it be a good idea to replace him or should I save the money, maybe for a 6th reroll??

Sack him. You don't need to save money for rerolls, an AV6 Hobgob is as good as dead and you really do not want him stealing SPPs.

Yes, get rid of him. Unless the hobbo is *really* worth someting (Block, Sure Hands *and* AG4 etc), they're very expendable!

Ideally, you shouldn't rely on your hobgoblins to do anything, apart from having Mv6 and Ag3, and occasionally St3. What I mean is that as soon as a hobgoblin becomes anything near important to your team, that is when the opponent has an easy time wrecking it. So play them as the expendables they are. If they get a skill or perhaps even two - great! But don't build your tactics relying on those skills, cause hobgoblins will die and get injured. A lot!

He has no skills whatsoever, so it sounds like the right thing to get rid of him.

...and now it's done!

Don't bother ! Like you fear, he will only steal a MVP to a really valuable player. Make him an assistant coach if you feel for him...

Assistant coach? A Hobgoblin? Well, I suppose with intensive training he can learn how to tie the bootlaces for the other hobgoblins on the team :D

There is a better way to get rid of him, Put him on the line to distract your opponents hard players, that way it stops your decent guys getting hit( well some at least)

If he ends up getting a skill, he would make a great Dirty Player. On one team, I had 2 6AV Dirty Players. They were expendable.

hmmmm, you are right he might be of use but tghe question is whether those SSPs he will soak up could be used better somewhere else and I think they could so I have sacked him now and replaced him with his more healthy twin

I had a Beastman that developed -1 AG and a Niggle.

What did I do? Kept him for LOS and he ended up getting his first skill with a flukey TD and a couple of CAS. I gave him Piling On as I really didn't care if he died and now he runs round rampant jumping on players and being a real pain in the ass.

Ironicaly since I stopped giving a toss about him he never got injured again.

The idea of putting him on the LoS sounds good, but with AV6 it's very likely he'll be injured. This, of course, is the reason you are putting him there... so that no other player gets injured instead. However, it does mean that your chances of playing a drive a player down is increased and I'm not convinced a Chaos Dwarf team actually wants to do that all that often.

Cheers,
Martyn

i would definitely suggest you keep the next player you get with this sort of "handicap" a he invariably will become a superstar... played with the reclessness that is required to succeed in bloodbowl, he will do things no one else on your team would be foolish enough to do... you'll find he'll hold lines against ogres, he'll scoop balls out of four tackle zones, he'll get great foul rolls, etc... why? simply because by not caring about his wellbeing, you'll actually _try_ to do those things with an "expendible" player...

...havn't you ever noticed that it's the coaches who do utterly ridiculous things that succeed in this game? the guys who routiniely put str2 players into blitzes against black orcs and roll double-pow, the guys who throw long bombs from and to zombies who get the last second touchdown, there seems to be something peculiar about dice, they know when someone's being illogical and reward it in kind...

or, more likely, it's jus tthat those who don't do things based on favorable odds, but just do what makes the most sense at the moment invariably do fine despite the odds and stats...

you just might find that that schmuck's 6av is the hardest score to break on your team...

... I don't give a f*ck about my hobgobs anyway but I'd rather an MVP goes to a hobgob with AV7 instead of AV6 so he will actually have a small chance of doing any good :-)

I wouldn't have sacked him if I didn't have enough money to buy his more healthy replacement, but by chance I have enough, so the lost of 30k isn't that bad, maybe I won't next time who knows?
