Double roll on a Norseman Thrower

Post by The Grifter »

Hello everybody.

After my query for Dwarves, it's for a Norse team that I need assistance.

After the first match my thrower got its first skill roll.

I expected to give him Sure Hands, but I came with a double.

I know that Sure Hands is quite a sure improvement in this team, but a double... I now get attracted by Leader (after all, I can also grab the ball on the first attempt !) or maybe the Strong Arm - Accuracy way of life

Could anyone give me an advice ?

Thanks in advance.

Get Dodge. You have the beginnings of your defensive thrower now and have one more Blodge player than you'd usually expect.

Definitely strong arm, no contest. A second thrower who rolls a double could then take dodge and be your defensive thrower.

Am I the only one who would take a long look at Nerves of Steel?

NoS means he can pass in TZ's without modifiers.

It can be extremely useful to throwers for a couple of reasons

1) If you can't dodge you can pass anyway.

2) Tie up defenders. Deliberately run up to defenders when passing so that they have to block or dodge to be able to get to the receiver.

IMO Strong Arm is better if you are playing a passing game, but if you are running the ball more then NoS may be better for getting you out of a jam.

I think for the way Norse have to play to control the ball and the field of play, NOS would be much better. Norse just don't have the speedy catchers to run a pocket passing game while waiting for the reciever to get open.

You try to move the ball down the field while protected and if an opportunity erupts to throw a quick pass and get the bal out of reach, you take it. Unless you've also got some movement upgrades on your team...

No, I have no MA upgrade yet.
However, when I thought about Strong arm, it was in a counter-attack view. I explain.

When on offense, I try to give the ball to a guy who will have the most chances to reach the toucdown zone in one piece, and with the ball if possible ! With my usual luck with dice (ask Fenryll, he does not even laugh anymore), I try to make as few passes as I can, so it will usually be a Catcher (with Blodge asap, I hope) who will make the travel protected by his teammates until the last blitz.

However, when on defense, as I almost always send one or two people pressing the opponent's ballhandler, at least one of them is often quiet and alone in the opponent's rear zone after one or two turns. But when ('cause it happens quite often too) I have a chance to take back the ball, my team is usually too scattered to efficacely create a simili-cage and begin its journey towards he other end of the pitch. That's where the Strong Arm takes place, as it shall make the Bomb a Long pass, or even the Long a Short pass... That's why I leaned towards the Strong Arm/Accurate combo.

But maybe I get a little too enthousiastic...?

I play as Norse myself and also have a record of unlucky pass rolls (and catch, armour, GFI and injury rolls for that matter). My thrower has Sure Hands and Accurate(+1 to the pass roll) but 9 out of 10 times i dont even pass the ball unless its a quick pass. Instead ive worked out a little move that works quite well-
when you receve the ball stay out of the way of the front line(make a daisy chain or something). Have your blitzers make a hole in the weakest part of their line(*I dont start with my blitzers on the front line, their frenzy means that if you get push back on the 1st block you will be surounded by the oponents 1st and 2nd line an be ripped to bits). Then run and pass off the ball to them, they can then run off hand in hand and score a TD!
eg.
B L
B
1. L L L L L 2. L L L L L BBL 3. L L L L L
L B B L L B L B
B T
T T
get the ball start the drive pass of ball to blitzer

Hope you can understand that quick scribble. If you can get your blitzers the guard skill then this move works really well. :D [/u][/i]
