Any thoughts on making a new high elf team....

I´ve chosen 6 linemen, 2 Dragons, 1 Thrower, 2 Catchers, Fan 7, 1 RR.....
Risky I know for a starting line-up - but what would you do?

thx,

Nagash

I'd advise against starting any league team with only one reroll. You cannot simply rely on AG 4 to pull you through and the additional skills you are buying early off do not compensate.

Additionally, your players are expensive, you will not have the money to buy new rerolls particularly quickly, and all those double skulls you won't be able to reroll will put your team on the back foot which could cost you more casualties.

You can always buy positional players later.

I went with 1 PW, 2 DW, 8 linemen, 2RR and FF6. Lost a lineman in both of the first two games and never really recovered. I'm just starting my 6th game and I still only have 10 on the roster. Still, bad luck aside, it's a pretty good starting Helf line-up.

Ok, all depence of the tournament:

For a long one, you should not take lion at the beginning to get SPP with Dragons and lineman, When you will buy Lion , they will get their own spp quickly:
1 Phoenix 80.
2 Dragons 200.
8 Line-elf 560.
1 Apo 50.
2 RR 100.
1 FF

For a short tounament like Tulips, i ve done this:

2 Lions
1 Phoenix
2 Dragons
6 Line-elf
2 RR
2 FF

Hope it helps it thinking.

I started with my current team (won 4, drawn 2) with

1 Phoneix
2 Dragon
8 Line elf

2 RRs
6 FF

It works pretty well - and you probably don't really need the Phoneix to start off, but 10k is well worth it IMO.

My first lion warrior just played his first game, and got 2 TDs :D - you don't need them at the start and I'd rather have block.

2 Dragon
9 Line Elf
2 RR
7 FF

Line elves rock. Don't be afraid to use them as throwers, catchers, runners, blitzers, etc. Don't start with a thrower you can give completions to line elves and increase their odds of getting skills.

I started a dark elf team with only 1 blitzer and 10 line elves (exact same players just so you know) and won 7 of my first 8 games. I figure if you're making them for a tourney tho, you won't need FF so much so 7 should be plenty...may as well get a touch more punch with an extra dragon warrior.

When receiving I never pickup the ball with the Phoneix warrior. Two Line elves start deep with him and pickup the ball and throw it to him. Then he makes a pass when I'm in a position to score.

All my line elves have got SPPs and half have skills (after 6 games).

I've won a couple tournaments with High Elves. I went with 1 PW, 2 DW, 8 Linemen, 2 TRRs, and 6 FF. Worked fine for me even though they lost players at a phenomenal pace. (4 dead in a game...!)

I also went for 1PW, 2DWs, 8 line-elves, 2RR, 6FF (in the MBBL2). They started off ok (beating humans and slann elves), lost to chaos, beat treefolk, lost four games in a row (khemri, chaos dwarf, halloweeni, and khemri again), but then convincingly won their next match 4-0 against a shallya side. (You may have to look some of those teams up on Galak's website! ) They now seem to have developed into a reasonable team, but it's taken a while to get there. My recommendation (which others probably don't agree with) is to play the dodging away game for many of your early matches. You'll probably lose the match, but you'll be in a good position to keep players alive. The crucial thing is to develop your team over time - and it will take time. I'm hoping that my high elves will be a good team in the MBBL2 Season 3, but it might take even longer!

Cheers,
Martyn

1 Phoenix
10 LineElfs

2 RR
7 FF
1 Apo

This works. Your LineElfs ARE good. Besides, this way you force your LineElfs to do things so they´ll advance before you purchase Dragons And Lions and they´ll steal the show. It´s important that you have atleast one good thrower since he´ll be important later. Do comps with those who get MVP´s so they advance. I´ve played 19-3-3 with my team. You can see it at lanti2.tripod.com if you want, The Avengers.

Hello,

I've started playing another High Elf team for my current league.
Accross the league games have a total of 4 TD's or less in total being scored during them.
Results like:
1-0
2-0
2-1 (most common)
2-2 (no overtime)
3-1
Being the most common, with one 4-0 result.

Do other people find this to ususally be the case?

In my playing history even with skilled teams (200+TR) games only really get to being 5 TD's total most of the time. 3-2 being a common result.

However, out of interest I read Kri's link and his team roster. And hes had games with 6 or 7 TD's total being common, some with 9 TD's and even one with 10 TD's (6-4)...
Firstly, how do you manage to fit that many into a game?!?!
& Secondly, how can you contrast being that good on offense and that bad on defense?!?

The contrast is simple: i score, and i let you score quikly too, as this, there is a lot of spp...
and in one moment he will have intercept or had a blitz or whatever and take the break...

My best result with HE was a 6/0 once against a poor TR team, but i suceed in doing some 4/1 3/1 or 4/0(like in Tulips).

Only 4 TD is too few. even if the opponent score, you should be able to score in 2 turns each time you receive the ball (in the way i am playing HE). even if sometimes it dont work, it does most of time.

kepp on trying, HE is not so simple to play well, but when it comes good, it is VERY good to rules with them (with a great and beautifull play IMHO).

c ya and good luck

If you always try to score in 2 turns then you'll just end up failing sometimes and turnover the ball. Sure, there are times when I've had an opponent fail there first Block and in had an Easy 2 turns, or off a Quicksnap and scored in 1 turn. But if your always going to be that desperate about scoring you will need to roll 'tinny' dice when an opposing coach plays a good defensive game.
And not every team can score in 2 turns safely (because of speed constraints), nor in the case of Dwalfs, Orcs or Chaos want to score in 2 turns, which only sucks up turns meaning you can't get as many TD's through.

Unless the Coaches are agreeing to allow people to score every 2 turns for the sake of getting SPP's and making there teams better in the league (which would be beardy) then games arent going to get more than 4-5 TD's in them total.

So neither of you try to defend :-?

Its rare I'll be given a good opportunity to score in 2 turns as normally all my possible receivers will get covered and you don't have a chance to get more than 2~3 downfield anyway.

In our league the average is ~3.5 TD's per game. This I would consider a normal rate.

Thks Ian... I'm glad to see people do get the same kind of TD rate per game :)

Blood Bowl is won on Defense.
