Pariah is right, hit em hard. I'd use the sidelines and box them in. Have your free safety blitz to push the pile back and hope the ball carrier doesn't squirt through your lines.

I'd make a wall 1 square away from his players to slow them down. 1-2 players making a 2nd wall (TZ) helps to prevent squirtage.

Hey if he's going side to side, at least he isn't getting closer to the endzone ;)

What do you mean by a "sweep"? In football terms, a sweep usually means you're pulling linemen and tossing the ball.

Anyway, the best way to protect the sides from runners is to start on defense with plenty of players in the middle. If you try to set up on both sides, half your team will be out of position once the other team chooses a side. Depending on the teams involved, you can try to delay the sweep, by using the kick skill and kicking away from the strong side of the formation. Once the blockers and ball carrier are set, you have two options, depending on your style:

1) The standard method is to maintain a wall a square away from the blockers to hold the ball carrier in. You hope for a mistake by your opponent or the end of the half, whichever comes first. This is boring and doesn't let you test Lady Luck much, but sometimes it's all you've got.

2) The fun method is to put good blockers of your own in contact with the other team's blockers. Next turn, he can either pound on you, which prevents his blockers from moving and has a slight risk of turnover, or he can dodge away to move upfield with a greater risk of turnover, or, if the runner is fast enough, he'll pound you to open a hole and then bust loose. If there's a good chance for the runner to score, you probably should have done the standard method. Otherwise, if you can take the beating, try this method sometimes.

The other strategy to test once and awhile is leaving the wide zones entirely open when you set up. Some thoughtless coaches might take the opportunity to advance too quickly in this situation. In a game in the MBBL2 (in which I was cheating, but here me out anyway) I needed one 50/50 dodge to get to the ball carrier because he went up the wide zone in the first turn after the kick. If you set up a backup plan before testing your luck, a risk like that can be a golden opportunity (even without the cheating).
