Star Players and Big guys, how may can you get in a team?

I think I know the answer if I read the LRB correctly. Just that a friend doubts my honest opinion (and I don't blame him) so I want to know for sure.
My friend has a Skaven team. On the long term he wants to have 4 rat ogres in the field. I said that's not possible because:
A. You can buy
one Big Guy in your team
B. Unless it's a league match where you have to hire them, you can buy:
1. Hakflem Skuttlespike
2. Headsplitter
(I'm guessing they are both RO's. Doesn't mention that in the LRB.)
That would make 3 in total and no more. Am I correct?

You can only have one BIG GUY thats correct.
Not sure if you can hire a star player Rat Ogre (only Headsplitter is RO, Hakflem is not) if you have one allready.
I believe you can only hire star players if the position you hire them for is not allready full, but as is aid i am not sure of it.

Well that's the main problem Asmodan, neither am I. Should I pretend I'm sure and just say: Hé friend I'm right, you're not!
The question will now be, Can you have a total of 2 RO's? (since one of the mentioned Star Players obvoiously isn't a RO.

)
Thanks anyway, any more suggestions?

Star players are NOT big guys. Even the ones that are.
To count as a big guy the player must specifically be stated to have the "Big guy" racial characteristic. The stars don't (or at least, didn't last time I checked.)

Yes, you can have two:
One as your normal Big Guy Rat-Ogre and the one who's a Star Player. Star Players do not count towards positional player or Big Guy Slots.
So a Goblin Team could have 2 Rookie Ogres, the Ogre star and the Troll Star.
I highly recommend that you use Stars properly, that means you have to pay half their price for every game, else you'll ruin your league.

just like the fling teams that take 2 treemen and also have deeproot as well making 3 treemen
star players have the star player position so you can have 4 human blitzers and griff (who is also a blitzer) on a human team to make 5 effectivly

Yeah the Goblin team for Death for the Blood Bowl that would have loved to see:
2 Ogres
Ripper
Morg
Fungus the Loon
7 Goblins
1 Reroll
2 FF
That would have been so much fun and the look on your opponent's face when you take the field ... priceless.

just a question, do you all play with the rule that star players don't count against player limit?
In our league we have agreed that e.g. Griff counts against the limit for Blitzers on a humie team.
I know that it's not the official rule, but how do you handle it?

He doesn't. Star Players are not player positions. Even a team with a full roster is able to hire a "position Star Player". The same goes for Big Guys.

are you sure about the full roster? I thought that you had to have one free slot to freeboot a player.

I agree with campaigner. IMO you must have a free slot (or fire someone) to freeboot any player be it a star or a normal player.

Well, you're right with the number of players (LRB, p. 42). Thank you.
Where is the 4-limit from?
