Dagger without Poison?

I just want to make sure I got this right. The poison Dagger Secret weapon rules do not make a distinction between that and a regular Dagger. Yet, it refers to "use as a regular dagger" once the poison is wiped off.
So Am I to understand that the only thing the POISON does is turn a Stun into a KO, and after the poison is gone all following uses of the dagger is just a straight AV roll? Either it breaks armor (minimum stun) or it does nothing?

u know, i just argued about this the other day during a fumbbl match. dude was upset that he could only use it once, then he throws normal blocks after the poison wears off. the LRB says "the dagger causes injuries as normal." i interpreted this (apparently ski did as well...) as meaning the player makes normal blocks from then on out. but now im not so sure. seeing as how ive never been in a league that used secret weapons, i really dont know how this is supposed to work. but if the interpretation that the only thing affected by the lack of poison is the injury is correct, i see this as being quite a powerful weapon. you get blockless av rolls on every turn, you dont have to roll to start it (like chainsaw) and the penalty roll is high enough for it to be extremely difficult to have the player sent off. maybe horkon heartripper isnt so bad after all...

I've always interpreted it that the dagger can still be used after the poison is wiped off. Sure you get a block free armour roll, but that might not be so great if what you really need is for the guy to be knocked over. If you don't make the armour roll the guy is just standing there, ready to block you, and you'll probably go over and get fouled the next turn

I think that is the right way to play it. (can tutn out pretty nasty)

The dagger (with or without poison) and the chainsaw are Nuffle's answer to all those blodging low armour types. "Look mommy! Watch the little wardancer squirm and squeal! Can I have a go?"
A regular 2die block (no tackle) gives you a 33% chance of getting the guy down, tackle increases it to 66%, so yes tackle is better than the secret weapons, but a) you get other bonusses from the weapons (+3, or auto KO) and b) they _don't get pushed back_ (sidestep!).

Would be strange if the dagger couldn't be used anymore if the poison was off, wouldn't it?
Just use it as a dagger iow make an armour roll to determine if the opposing player stays on his feet or get's injured. After that do NOT apply the stunned is KO rule. If 1-7 on the injury is thrown then leave the player on the field.
I will make a remark to the BBRC and ask to add a piece of tekst to the rule book.

There is no question that the dagger is not a one use weapon.
Code: Select all
Once the dagger has been used to successfully stab a victim (ie, they failed their Armour roll), then the poison is wiped off and the dagger causes injuries as normal until after a touchdown is scored or the half ends.
The key part here is this:
the dagger causes injuries as normal
How could it cause injuries as normal unless it could be used in its unpoisoned state? (if you are rolling block dice, you are blocking ... not using the dagger)
The BBRC doesn't need to clarify this one. The rulebook is pretty clear on this. Some folks may not play it that way, and Ski might have misunderstood the rules, but the dagger doesn't just turn off because its doesn't have poison anymore.
