Does Dropping A Scattered Ball Cause A Turnover?

I recently had two players surrounding an enemy ballcarrier the other day. One of them hit the carrier and knocked him down, causing the ball to scatter to the player on the other side. He (of course) failed his catch roll, and the ball wound up on the field next to him.
Does dropping the ball like that cause a turnover? If so, it seems I might've been better off not even hitting the stupid carrier at all.
It is technically finished moving and not in the possession of the moving team, but if it had simply landed on the pitch in the first place it would've just sat there peacefully without ending my turn just yet...

failing to pick up a stationary ball is a turnover
failing to catch a scattered ball isn't

No turnover. Just curious. How did you play it?
Page 8 LRB. Turnovers mark 3.
The ball is passed and not caught by a player from the moving team
You did not
pass the ball, so.....

Except when it's scattering from your team's inaccurate pass, of course.

Not if someone from your team catches after that Skummy. A failed catch roll of a non-stationary ball is never a turnover until you determine the status of the ball when it comes to rest.

... right. Failing to catch a moving ball isn't a turnover except when it's a failed pass your team attempted, and the play isn't over until the ball has stopped moving.

Aaargh!
This one is tricky to write but easy when you know how
... doesn't have to be a failed pass Skummy
actually, failing to catch isn't a turnover...
failing to pick up is.
failing to pass the ball and end up with it in the hands of another of your players is.
failing a hand-off catch is.

Okay, so let's fully exhaust this thing:
Failing to pick up a stationary ball is a turnover.
Failing to catch a moving ball is not a turnover, unless it was a pass or handoff from your own team, and nobody on your team is holding the ball when it comes to rest.

The stationary ball could be fumbled on a pickup attempt. If it scattered to a teammate it would still be a turnover, even if they caught the ball.

Are you sure, Skummy? I was under the impression the reason that failing to pick up the ball is a turnover is because you've attempted to touch the ball but it winds up being out of your team's hands at the end of the failing player's action...
I mean, I realize its in the list of things which are always turnovers, but still. Is there meant to be a blanket ban on failing pick-up rolls or just when the ball ends an action out of your hands after you've tried to do something with it?

He's sure. Failing to pick up the ball is a turn over, even if it winds up in a teammates hands. Same goes for fumbling a pass. TURNOVER Hè Hè. Oh it was my turn, wasn't it. D***.
