Block or Blitz?

If your player started their move adjacent to an opponent's player could they choose to Blitz rather than block?

The reason this was done against me was that my opponent's player had the ball only a few squares away from my Endzone and I had placed him in a tackle zone. He chose to Blitz my player, pushing them back and not following up so he could continue his move afterwards into the endzone without having to make a dodge roll.

Another reason I could think of for doing this would be if you had a Beastman with 'Horns' who chose to Blitz instead of Block in order to increase their strength from 3 to 4.

Does a player have to move before making a Blitz or can they move after making a Block and call it their Blitz action for the turn?

You can block then move on a blitz. Just the block costs a point of move....

yes a blitz can have the block action at any part of the move, provided there are enough movement points left (including GFIs)

As they say, but you do need to say it's a Blitz before rolling the dice, and also a beastman (or other Horny player) needs to move 1 square (at least) before making the block in order to receive the Str bonus!

I think redfang is wrong or I did not understand him but:

You have to say that you are Blitzing and cant decide after rolling for the block if it was a blitz or not.

When a ball holder does this I think of it a "fending off" an incipient tackle.

It is quite clear I think: LRB page 8:
You must declare which action a player is going to take
before carrying out the action. For example, you might
say, “This player is going to take a block action.”
