How to cope with house rules??

Last night, I played my Wood Elves against a Dwarf Team whose coach had an interesting mix of house rules. Since I've only played with my own team for a month or so, I created my team using the latest LRB. I feel that I was severely handicapped, and not only because of the 150+ difference in Team Rating.
For one, he didn't acknowledge Traits, so all his lineBeards had guard combined with Stand Firm (no trait, so no doubles needed), his Troll Slayers had Jump up (interesting). He used the SSP table from Death zone, which meant he got a lot more Star Player Rolls for the same amount of SSP then me, and so on, and so forth.
I didn't want to adapt my team to his rules because then I wouldn't be able to play other guys who do use the LRB rules. Do more people have this problem and how do you solve this? I would like to keep playing this guy, and his friends, but I don't want to be told constantly "Well, this is just a rule we have"
PS: I did kill one of his Star Troll Slayer. Hahahahahaha!

Start a second team to play against them, or join the Utrecht league and forget about them
Or ask them if they want to adapt to LRB, or ask them to come to your place, where they'll have to play by your rules (LRB)
Plenty of solutions

You can't play LRB against what sounds like a straight 3e team on any kind of a level playing field. Sounds like they don't want to lose many of the overpowered aspects of 3e that were fixed with the LRB in terms of team development.
I'm curious, which ruleset were you playing by on the field, LRB, 3e or some kind of hybrid?

well, it wasn't that bad. For them it just never happened before that they played someone who used the LRB rules only. I noticed I was completely overpowered, still, I think I did pretty well with only five casualties (he killed my wardancer, grumble!)
He just mentioned what they did differently whenever it came up, which didn't make for a really fun game. And my fan factor dropped from 5 to 4 because of a natural 1 (another thing they don't do, which explained the fan factor of 25)
it turned out to be a Hybrid game, with his team being far more powerful, having developed under more profitable rules. Adapting his team to LRB rules was no option because he would loose almost all his Traits and that would make his team impossible to play in their league, and would be too much of a bother anyway. And i didn't want to adapt my team because then I wouldn't be able to play other people in the future
I agree I should find a more permanent solution if I want to keep playing my friends more often. Maybe I can persuade them to take on the LRB rules, at least all of those rules are in writing. (with some slight modifications, they especially seem to dislike the new handicap-table, so the Dirty trick cards will probably stay, which adds to the fun anyway, I think)
I really don't want to create a second team under rules I don't know and can't look up, because then I can only play that team against that specific group of friends, and that is my main problem. I think I'd like coming to play in utrecht, please

I would delete the records of the last match (no money, no SPPs and no deaths etc) from your LRB team and just start a new team according to their rules or
delete the records as above and join someone else.
Trying to perusade them won't help and half solutions still won't let you enjoy the game I'm afraid.

I think I can persuade people to make new teams using LRB. They were using many rules "They had read somewhere" without being exactly sure what they read, so I think it'll turn out fine.
Maybe I'll just make a team or 2 to play exclusively against them, which is actually the one thing I'm trying to avoid. maybe I can still make them see reason. They admitted their problem was that they didn't have a league commissionar, and they really don't want a comm. since organized leagues never last very long.
I'm not sure what the best course of action is, so I'll just wait and see. (and demand a bigger handicap when I'm up against troll-slayers with Jump-up again... yeah!, even more Dirty Trick cards for me )

It would have been nice to know this before the match started. But finding out as you went along just sucks. If I knew about this before the match I probably wouldn't play.

Well, you're supposed to look at the other team's roster before you start playing. Having seen all this stand firm and jump up around, that would have been it for me, the game never would have even started.
Yeah, try and make them see the light. You guys should start a real league with new 100 TR teams and play by the LRB. Then after a while, they can tell you whether they like it or not.

since I'm now a proud 5-match veteran coach (I'm new at this game) I had no idea exactly how powerful these skills were in great number. Of course I saw them in the LRB, but the theory can never come close to the real thing. It'll not happen again!

That would be the best option, and I'll suggest it. maybe the prospect of having another two players can move them to start using the LRB. The problem is, if you were told all your dwarfs should strick their Stand firm, and your Troll Slayers should loose their JumpUp, would you like it? I'll suggest it and hope for the best.
Otherwise, it seems I'm making friends already on this forum (living nearby), so I hope there will no longer be a shortage of opponents.

Like i said, you should all start new teams, not try to adjust your existing teams to the LRB, which is impossible.

If it was a league you joined - shoot their commissioner. With our league our house rules and deviations from the LRB are spelled out quite clearly to everyone. I even have handouts prepared for next season

No, No, it was nothing like that. It's a group of friends who play a few games a year, really without structure, hence no league, nor a commissionar.
The problem with leagues is that they seem to fall apart quite soon because players drop out or refuse to play (for example because their Griff Oberwald was killed, bit childish, I know). Their rules have just evolved over the years, while I'm still young and innocent

I really don't think anyone of my friends could tell me exactly what rules and deviations they use, so I won't bother asking, or playing by their rules.
