Dwarf teams

From reading the Blood bowl mags there seems to be a debate over the strength of the dwarf team. I think with all the elves getting two additional position players it's only fair to keep the dwarves in line. I don't think giving them 2 additional runners is the answer though. I think they should get 2 more blitzers. Playing against dwarf teams I just take out their ball carriers and they are severly limited. Giving them 2 more blitzers will keep them "hitty" and give them 2 more ball carriers. Also these two blitzers are for long range team development because dwarves always hoard their gold and this will give them something else to spend it on. Also in long range team development dwarves tend to fall behind the more agile teams because they don't score (gain spp's) fast to win. They need to play ball control. By the time the agility teams have developed they can cope with all the dwarves skills so giving them two more blitzers I don't think would make the team too powerful.

Dwarves are one of the best teams, period. They really don't need more positional players.

When playing against agility teams all the dwarves need to do is form a protected cage then play beat the elf - it's effective. It's true that dwarves don't gain SPPs as fast as elves, but their lifespan is considerably longer.

The dwarf team is perfectly fine. I regularly start my Dwarves with 10 Longbeards and 1 Runner, and do perfectly fine. Even with AGI 2 you still can pick up the ball and pass it, it just takes a few rerolls thats all. An at 40K each, you should have 3 to start with.

Don't go saying this in my league or you will be shot. My entire league is hellbent on REDUCING the power of Dwarves. They site these facts:

1) Longbeards have access to STR skills, a rarity for a regular lineman position.
2) With the 6/16 SPP's needed for the 1st 2 skills, it is harder for elves to compete with dwarves. It used to be 6 and 10 SPP's. They feel that Tackle should be removed from Dwarves because of this.
3) Cheap rerolls. At 40k each, Dwarves regularly start with 3 rerolls.
4) They do not feel that the low MA is enough to compensate for their heavy doseage of skills.

Personally, I think that they are full of crap and the Dwarves are very balanced. I have yet to go undefeated with them, and have never won a tourney with them.

They also think that Lizzies are a horrible team

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say the dwarfs need any tweaking to make them better, but I don't think they are an overpowering team, either. Sure, they're a wonderful team early in a league, but as the league progresses things can get a little tough. Without the speed to score quickly, it's hard to make up for stuff that may go wrong along the way. And without the high number of touchdowns, dwarfs gain skill rolls much more slowly... granted, a line full of guard, block, and tackle is pretty daunting, but by that time most opposing teams will have a pretty decent starting lineup as well to counter it.

I've always done well with dwarves, but there is just too little room for mistakes with dwarves once in a developed league. Once a league gets developed the AG teams will have their counters for the dwarf line. Also the power teams with access to the higher st players can push the dwarves around. Dwarves don't have access to a big guy which I consider an additional positional player for most rosters. --deathroller don't count. I think If you tried it out, giving the dwarves two more blitzers wouldn't make them over the top, just bring them up to par.

gken, did you just say dwarves can't get a big guy? :-?
Whats an Ogre then, an oversized teddy bear? dwarves have had ogres since at least 3rd edition. Some people like to complain about this saying it isn't warhammer fluff, but i don't care it's in Blood Bowl fluff so they should stay. In FUMBBL I just named my Ogre "Deathroller" and changed his pic and java icon to that wonderfull steamroller with spikes (though he still has ogre stats).

my screw up. didn't actually look at allies list lately. honestly I'd rather see a dwarf team with two more blitzers than access to an ogre. It does fit the Fluff better :)

Don't think I could stomach taking a Dwarf Ogre myself. Let the little guys stand own their own (stubby) two legs. :D

That aside the new addition of postion players to the two elf teams is because they could not get Big Guys as I understood it. With the Troll Slayers the Dwarves have always had the power to match the other teams with the big men. Heck, under 3rd Ed my two Troll Slayers had to take on a human team with 4 Morgs on board. And that was without me even fully grasping at that time the full beneifts of the old Frenzy skill.

Add to that the ability for most of the team to pick up ST skills and these little guys don't seem to have too much trouble with the Big'uns.

Nowadays with the seriously toned down number of Big Guys available I would not see the need to compensate the Dwarves with extra position players.
