hey,

Ok so the first question, if a member of your team has guard can he only use it to help if he's next to the guy hitting your othe rplayer, or as long as hes next to the guy benig hit?

some example positions

X is enemy, O is guy being hit on your team G is the helpnig out guy

Code: Select all

--X--
--O--
--G--

Code: Select all

--X--
-O-G-

Code: Select all

--X--
--OG-
I think and just need it confirmed that your guy has to be in contact with the enemy hitter, no other enemies and beside your teammate to defend him, he cannot be behind your guy, and with guard he can do the same even being in tackle zones, correct?

so in example 1 you could not get a defensive assist correct? in number two you cant as hs not in contact with the other player inyour team, and in three he can assist, and defensively assist fine?

is this correct?

In order to assist, the guard player needs to be standing next to the opposing player who is being hit, or the opposing player who is hitting another of your team mates

so in the first one he can't assist, the second two he can

make sense? your wording of the question is hard to read

A guard player works just like any other assist. He just cannot be canceled by another guy that has him in his tackle zone.

G'dook is correct, but perhaps a minor clarification of what he said might help.

A guard may assist the BLOCKING player provided that he is in the tacklezone of the player BEING BLOCKED.

A guard may assist the TARGET player provided that he is in the tackelzone of the player PERFORMING THE BLOCK.

The player with Guard ignores TZs so you only have to consider the two statements above. Also, the Guard still negates opposing team assists as he still exerts a TZ of his own (unless, of course, they too have Guard...).

which brings to mind a Raymond E. Feist quote....

"First Magician casts spell, enemy magician counters. more magicians join First to make spell stronger, more join Enemy to strengthen Counter..... Soldiers come along and chop up magicians...."

in short bring a chainsaw to the party and then don't worry about Guard

Thanks for the replies, I was trying to work out my own question which is why it came out prob a bit weird to read.

Could player R offer an assist to P if he did not have guard and was as shown below as he is within the tackle zone of the player being blocked:

Code: Select all

---X-
---P-
--R--

as long as R and X are on the same team, having Guard or not is not important: R can assist X in blocking P.

guard kicks in here:

Code: Select all

---X-
---1-
-2P-
X and P are teammates
1 and 2 are teammates
if X blocks 1, P can assist only if has Guard, otherwise is in the tackle zone of 2 and therefore cannot assist.

i meant X is the enemy, P is being blocked by X and G is behind P, i think you read my example wrong Alternat

Code: Select all

---X--
---P--
---G--
Can G in this case help P if he has not got guard since he is within P's tackle zone and is not guarded.

You don't help/assist a teammate by being in their tackle zone, you do it by being in the tackle zone of the player they are blocking/being blocked by. However they can only do this if there are no other opposition players in their tackle zone unless they have the guard skill.

So, in your example no.

I think that's the confusion.

in short, to assist you teammate you must be in the TZ of your opponent being blocked, and of no other opponents.
if you have Guard, you can skip the last sentence.
