Bribes

So, let's say I have a chainsaw and two bribes. The drive ends, and the player with the chainsaw gets sent off, so I use a bribe. However, I roll a 1, so the call stands. Can I then use my other bribe and roll again?

Yes

really?

that seems a bit backwards given that you can't roll anything else again in the game

I was under the impression that they worked like rerolls, you can't use another reroll to reroll something if the first reroll failed for example

You are not re-rolling anything. If you were than the limit would apply.

The rule for Bribes does not say to re-roll the bribe. Its say use the bribe and you get a 2+ change to stop something from happening. There is not wording about re-rolling and using a second bribe has no impact on the roll of the first bribe.

In effect you have this:

Ref: You are out of here!!! (SW ejection rule)
Goblin Coach: Are you sure about that? (hands over cash) (Bribe roll #1)
Ref: Yeah I'm sure you pathetic monkey-faced loser! (Bribe roll #1 is a 1)
Goblin Coach: Nothing I can say to change your mind? (hands over more cash) (Bribe roll #2)
Ref: Ah ... well you make a good argument he can stay. (Bribe roll #2 is a 2 or more)

If I were the ref, I would say no first time on general principle

I know it isn't a reroll in the typical sense, but from a common sense point of view (which is how i usually interpret the rules when unclear) it has a high commonality to feeling like a reroll.

Botocs iirc works that you can't use more than one bribe and when i failed a bribe roll I didn't think twice when it didn't ask to use another one (which I would have if it had asked). So I am clearly not alone in assuming this.

I understand how it works from a semantic point of view as you have said it is ok. My point is that the rules are too unclear, it should be explicit, in this case as the usage goes against convention imo.

Feel free to mention this to Doubleskulls on his thread for typo-correction for the Competitve Rules Alternative Pack.

This exact situation came up in a recent league games I had vs Goblins. We both reread the wording of the bribe rules, and both agreed that as many bribes can be used as you have until one suceeds. Don't have the rules with me at work, but sure it was easy enough to interpret as it didn't mention anywhere that you couldn't.

doesn't mention that you can either though ;]

I'll put it in the aforementioned thread

I think a correction is only needed if you can use another bribe. I think it is pretty clear that you can only use one bribe per call.

Each bribe costs 100,000 gold pieces and allows
you to attempt to ignore one call by the referee for a player who
has committed a foul to be sent off, or a player armed with a
secret weapon to be banned from the match. Roll a D6: on a roll
of 2-6 the bribe is effective (preventing a turnover if the player
was ejected for fouling), but on a roll of 1 the bribe is wasted and
the call still stands! Each bribe may be used once per match.

It really doesn't seem like you can use another bribe because the call "still stands" when the bribe fails.

"Each ... allows you to attempt to ignore one call ..." Not multiple let you attempt...

It was decided to work like this (that you can use multiple bribes) way back in the early days of the Vault, not long after Bribes were introduced. I remember this because I tried to push for a coach having to decide how many bribes they wanted to use before they rolled, but then they only got one chance to (multi-)roll.
I also think I tried to get unlimited Bribes in (before the Deathroller was put in I hasten to add! :o )

This rule would make a difference in play testing. I guess the best question is, of all of the matches that you guys use to consider the rules how many of the coaches thought they could use another bribe on a failure? I know all the data that I submitted for LRB5 + exp did not allow more than one bribe per call.

I would support a change of wording to make this rule more explicit, if Galak's interpretation is that of the BBRC.

I interpreted the rule to mean only one bribe could be used per sending off. I am not alone in this interpretation.

It is as this topic has come up before ... and I've added it to the list for Ian already to have a couple words of clarifications added when Jervis makes the final updates.

Since leagues interpret the rules themselves doing it either way with bribes I'm quite happy with - they just need to be consistent.

I can see the case for saying this seems an exception of the convention, but they can be used multiple times. I doubt the clarification will make it into the update.
