Kick Skill:

I was curious to see if anyone else has run into this question. The current rules say that you can choose to use a skill after rolling the dice. Does this include the kick skill? The only argument against it that I could find was that the kick skill is not used during a team turn. Does anyone know a definitive answer?

This ruling is not dependant on if a Skill is used during a Team Turn. A Skill can always be used AFTER the dice are rolled, but before any further actions are taken, regardless of what stage of the game you are in. Therefore, you can roll the dice for determining scatter, then decide to use the Kick Skill if it would provide a better result. This is especially useful on the Kick-Off Table result Bad Kick, because sometimes this can cause a very deep kick putting the ball as far away as possible to the opponents nearest player, yet sometimes it causes it to go off the pitch; Kick allows you to possibly prevent this.[/i]
Using Kick skill after placing the ball

Q: What order are the things that make up a Kick-off carried ot in? Ie, do you place the ball before you roll the dice on the Kick-off table, etc.
A: The correct sequence is: Place ball, Roll Kick-Off, Scatter Ball, Resolve Kick-Off Results, Bounce Ball. It is assumed that the ball lands just before it bounces. This menas that it lands during the Bounce Ball phase, so it cannot be caught, awarded for a touchback etc., until after you have resolved the results from the Kick-off table.
Since you Scatter the ball well and truly after you place the ball, you cannot adjust where the ball is placed after the scatter.
So you can choose to use the kick skill after you roll the scatter dice, however there is only a small benefit this creates. As far as I'm concerned you'd want to use the kick skill in almost all situations. I guess you then get a choice about which two locations you'd like the ball to be in, but it would be scattering in the same direction.

Having two locations to place the ball after you roll the scatter can sometimes be a very big deal. Thanks for clearing this up.

Actually, it's a clever little point you've discovered. Makes the Kick skill just that little bit cooler.
Well spotted - now I want to hear about all the times you've used it to your own evil advantage
