12 on a skill roll able you to take anything?

The rule i propose is:
On a 12 for a experience roll would give you one more choice:
You can get a trait from anything (even a Strengh Trait if you are a gunter runner for example)
So now the choice is ST+1/ getting a skill from anything / getting a trait from anything (exept mutation).
Maybe a 12 for a Cahos or Skaven able you to take a Phisical Skill too (not sure about this point).
So like this, everybody can have everything like in last edition but this is a hard choice to do...
Tell me what you think about it

What I'm asking is there a point?
Tell me the situations where you'd rather take something else than a strength increase?
There are situations of course (the third ST increase that would otherwise be wasted...), but most likely they're statistically so rare that this might be waste of ink on the rulebooks.
However, on the plus side, I see nothing imbalancing in this suggestion. And on the whole, I'm all for player development rules that promote different looking players (and sometimes hard to achieve -players), and this might be one way to do it.
This would make Jump Up mummies possible again, but how many of them there'd be? Not too many.

I was about to say the exact same thing! Even with your proposed change, i would still take +1ST on a double 6 everytime without hesitation. Giving people a choice that they'll never use seems kind of pointless. Unless i'm missing something here...

The rare cases where you would turn down +ST are most likely to be on Big Guys who you do not want to give access to strong arm or jump up.
It would be better to say double 1 allowed any skill or trait.
Even then I wouldn't think it was a good idea.

On the other hand, should the suggestion become a rule, that would suggest that there are situations where you should choose something else instead of ST - less enlightened coaches might even choose something else instead and be happy with it, so why not?

There is nothing to stop you taking a trait or any skill on a '12' so the only difference is opening up traits of skill categories you aren't normally able to get. This, IMO, is a bad idea. I don't like Mummies with Jump Up.

I have a thrower who has gotten -1ST. If I rolled 66 for him he would get Strong Arm and not +ST. So it could happen

You can do this under the current rules.
I'd retire him...

Erm, what's 5th edition? Do you mean, BB2k1 rules?
(How can there be a 5th edition, when there never was a 4th edition. No! It never existed. Anyone who tells you otherwise is indulging in conspiracy theory!

)

Instead of giving that choice on a double 6s you could give it on double 1s instead.

But he could have taken Strong Arm anyway on 66 per the current rules since he has access to Passing traits on doubles.

I think that's what he was saying Galak. In his case he would choose the Trait over ST. This was right after someone said no one would ever do that.
