I just did the "Bad Kick"-part to my kick-off calculator, but afterwards I got this horrible feeling that I'm not interpreting the kick-skill and the bad kick result right.

So is the amount of squares traversed equal to:

(1d6/2)+(1d6/2)

OR

2d6/2

You can vote which way you've done it in the poll above (so the poll is NOT about which you think is the right way, it is simply asking which way have you done it).

Now the first way is the way I've always done that: kick skill modifies the dice to be "0-1-1-2-2-3"-dice and these are added together in the bad kick.
But now that I read the skill description more accurately, the second option seems like the correct interpretation.

Which one was the intention?

The difference is not big, but its important for my calculator...

I ignored the kick skill for the bad kick result.

Is there any reference in the rulebooks that this is handled otherwise ?

LRB 1.3 pp 35
the number of squares that the ball scatters on kick-off is halved, rounding any fractions down
From that I'd say the the kick skill effects the total distance not each die - so the 2d6/2 method is correct.

I think Ian's right, however we play 1 d6 for a bad kick with the Kick skill - and I suspect that a lot of other leagues use the same method.

Interesting ... I'm with Relborn ... I've always played that the Bad Kick results overrode the Kick skill so I've always used 2D6.

However I can see how a strict intrepret of the LRB could yield 2D6 / 2.

Ok, the correct rules interpretation is obviously 2d6/2 - that was clear from the moment I read the skill description. However this interpretation might not be the way it was intended to be...

The kick-off calculator now does it the 2d6/2 -way, anyhow. Check the thread in general chat for more info on the update of the system...

In our league we have 1D6/2 + 1D6/2 because we think you should just roll two dice, same dice as ordinary kicks. And since ordinary kicks are at 1D6/2 you just do that twice and sum up the result.

Bad Kick: travels 2d6 rather than 1d6
Kick Skill: halves kick distance (round down)

The rules seem clear cut to me. Any other interpretation is reading in things that aren't there.

I agree Marcus the wording of the rules is clear as to how this should now be handled ... just missed it before.

We always played that bad kick always overode Kick skill (guess what I always rolled when my thrower with Kick was on the pitch :roll: ), purely on the basis that is wasn't just the skill of the kicker but weather as well (sudden gust of wind, that sort of thing).
However, I'd love to be wrong, it cost me enough touchbacks. :)
