Team Rating calculation

Just got a question about the timing of calculating the Team Rating of a team.

For some reason I always thought that any freebooted players hired at the start of the game would add their value to the Team Rating (ie. your rating would go up by half the value you spent) and therefore add to the handicap difference.

However, having had another look at the rules, it looks like the only time you even calculate Team Rating is step 5 of the post-match sequence, which means that freebooting never effects your Team Rating during the match.

Have I got this right?

nouge,

You're right. Freebooters do not affect TR at all.

Yep, it's calculated post-match so anything you do pre-match has no affect on it.

That's why spare cash is part of TR

Your spare cash in the bank has to be part of the TR calculation because you have a choice at the start of the game to freeboot players or wizards. If you freeboot anyone then those players or wizards have already been inlcuded in your TR. If you choose to keep it as cash then its your choice and you can't object if it affects your TR without influencing the game.

Yes. If i were to rewrite the alternate TR system that i wrote for 3rd ed, i'd include the treasury now because freebooting is much more prevalent than it was in the past, and needs to be accounted for.

I'd like to see the difference based on what you can potentially put on the field... not dead-weight sink factors....
