Was this the wrong choice for a Lion Warrior?
It's a bit late now since I've already made the decision, but just for the future (and in the light of the discussion about the norse lineman) I thought I'd raise it.
My Lion Warrior has just gained his first skill and I rolled double 5. I could have used it to raise his MA, but the temptation of a double was just too much and I chose Nerves of Steel (since this is a good choice for a catcher). I guess his next skill will be Dodge (now only a single TD away).
This is my second Lion Warrior. (I've just bought a third and the first already has Dodge as his first skill.) My original intention was to give him Block to create another blitzer-type to help the two Dragon Warriors, and then later to add in Shadowing and Tackle for the obvious ball-carrier hassling. I guess since this one is clearly a catching specialist now, I'll have to develop one of the others into a Shadowing Blodger.
Any thoughts...?
Cheers,
Martyn

speaking of nerves of steel... didn't it used to apply to picking up the ball? it doesn't seem to be written that way in the LRB and i'm trying to recall if it's been changed or if that was a house rule...
problem with house rules you've used for a decade is that you sometimes can't get them out of your system...

Nerves of Steel is a great skill for a lion warrior (HE catcher). Catching the accurate passes on 2+ with catch skill. He doesn't need more movement and I'd say its the best trait for them to have.
The question is where to go next - you need him standing so Dodge & Block are good to keep him on his feet - dodge first so you can escape all the TZ's around you.
Another option is to turn him into an interceptor - 5+ intercepts with a reroll (5/9 chance of success) even if you are in a tackle zone so I'd be tempted to take Dodge next and Pass Block as a 3rd skill.
Remember you can have 4 Lion Warriors now, so in the long run you can specialise your lion warriors more easily.

totally different take...
I think I would have given him dauntless, and made him a nice addition to a defence. As a ST3 catcher, Lions are very versatile. Having a ST3, MA8 guy in the back of the defense means nobody is getting by. Then when you DO get the ball back, you have a catcher there ready to make em pay.

Nerves of Steel is good. After that, go for Dodge followed by either Block or Sure Feet or Side Step. Let the defenders mark him! Just throw the ball to him anyway, let him catch it, and then watch him dodge away from everyone.
Do you know what you really need? Another one of these guys. Oh, and Leap isn't a bad skill choice once they have NoS and Dodge, because someone is going to start marking you six ways this side of Sunday once they figure out what these boys can do!
Cheers.

Yeah, its a cool skill. And now that you got it early you can develop the player due to the NoS skill, just as Chet said. It's always best to get double result as the first skill. Otherwise you may already have taken a normal skill which makes a double less valuable. (Like taking block for the first skill for a GR, and the getting a double as the next. If you would have taken Sprint first, you could have had an one-turn TD GR).

Good news! I got another one of these guys. I rolled a double for the first skill on my third Lion Warrior, so took Nerves of Steel again. The one we were discussing got a movement increase for his second skill - I was intending to take Dodge.Acerak wrote:Do you know what you really need? Another one of these guys.
My first Lion Warrior hasn't had any doubles yet... but he got Dodge and then Shadowing.

No, I don't normally browse pages such as this

martynq: Its already official that they will allow you to take any normal skill instead of a stat increase. So you wouln't have had to take +1MA. But then again, its not wrong with +1MA on a Lion Warrior either
