GW does allow conversions
As far as I know.
just do a bit more than the weapon snip, maybe put a regular GW Troll head on him

Seems he's not big enough for the LotR scale, doesn't it?
RotK could have convinced me to buy some of the minis if the trolls were cool enough and - especially - big enough. I'd really like to be able to recreate some of the Minas Tirith scenes...

I've heard that said about LOTR figs (that they are smaller than other GW minis), but I have a couple of them on the NBA BB team and they fit in fairly well. I don't think that they are done on a smaller scale, they are just done to a true 25mm scale so hands and heads are in scale and look smaller compared to WH.
