Are the elbow horns growing out of him or stuck on? They appear to have a plate round the bottom...

The elbow horns appear to be mutations distinct from his armor spikes.

I like this miniature. He really looks mean.

What is your photo setup like? I suspect that your miniatures would look even better if you used some better light sources.

I use a lightbox with two halogen spots at either side, which I position slightly in front of the model so they form a 160 degree angle where the mini sits. There is a halogen spot from above as well. I use a flash on a my camera (set at 5 megapixels) and set it to macro. I have played around with different types of lightsource settings before (i.e. Daylight, Fluorescent etc) in order to find the one that rendered the truest colors - pretty sure Fluorescent is the one I picked. Then in Paintshop I then resize and crop my pictures to a more appealing size. I NEVER touch anything up.

I have often thought my minis look nicer in RL than they do in the pics I take, so if any of the above is "wrong" let me know.. I have always been a massive fan of your work Horekim, so keen to hear what your set-up is like?

Thanks, Norse

I use a similar setup. I used to use the camera's macro function, but I've found that you can really improve your photos if you play around with the aperture and shutter speed.

In my experience it's hard to flood the miniature in all the light necessary though (unless you use some kind of professional setup) so I always add brightness and contrast in photoshop afterwards.

Here's a before and after picture of one of my miniatures:

From what I can tell your pictures would benefit from a little Photoshop magic (or whatever program you have access to) as well.

OK, thanks man, I'll try playing around with my settings a little. In truth, I find so little time to paint these days that taking more than 5 minutes to take a photo of it is rare...

that's a lovely elf zombie BTW - how much conversion work is that?? :o

I had to green stuff the undead facial features as well as the stomach. The legs were kindly donated by an old ghoul miniatures.

It looks great before AND after!

But yes, some contrast/brightness can help!
