Completed Slann Team (now fully painted p3)

While I wait for enthusiasm to strike me to finish off my wood elf band (re-roll counters), I thought I'd do something different and make the Slann team I've been planning using some old school fantasy Slann. The models I needed to make the team arrived earlier today, so I made a start on the 11-man starting squad (2 Blitzers, 7 Linemen and 2 Catchers).

First up, the Linemen:
Image

These guys are standard C32 Slann Warriors / Cold One Riders. They've had their weapons snipped and need a smidge of remedial work to cover up the shield bosses, but by and large will be used as is.

Next, it's the Blitzers:
Image

Both of these pair are wearing nice all in one suits; the chap on the right gets a really fancy eagle feather outfit! The suits will distinguish them from the rest of the team, and I may reposition the legs on Mr 'Couldn't-stop-a-pig-in-a-passage' on the left.

Finally, it's the Catchers:

These are both re-workings of my Wood Elf Wardancer and there's a lot of work to come. The guy on the left will need a new right arm sculpted over the wire so he can be vaulting over the human kicker. The guy on the right needs much more sculpting; I need to fill in the area around his neck from the repositioning of the head, and resculpt buttocks from the leg reposition. Both also need Catchers mitts and some BB armour/pads otherwise they're just on the field with loincloths!

Love the conversion work, but it irks me slightly when people convert old rare minis. Takes a lot of confidance to convert such raritys, keep up the good work and all will be good.

I debated this very point too, and my justification was that:

a) they'll be converted, but I'll aim to do it as best I can and make a decent fist of it
b) most of the models have never been painted so they've been effectively unused since cast (this could be up to 24 years) so it's about time they at least got some use.
c) nothing here is ultra, ultra rare. Most of these figures are available regularly on ebay for £4-5 (I got all mine for £2 each).
e) I will be able to use them at any GW event I wish to attend (assuming the slann list is permitted!)
d) they should look cool!

Anyway, today's progress is on that bandy-legged Blitzer. I couldn't get past his pose being a bit dull, and not hugely FF, so I dug around in my bits and unearthed a spare Impact Anubis hand. This is the result:

Since the photo I've realigned the amr so it's not so crooked. I do worry that his new arm is a fraction long, but I can live with justifying a dropped shoulder that you can't see because of the head. A lot of the untidiness will be covered by the paint scheme, but I think it works better than just the weapon snip.

The details are a bit hard to see (not your fault, its always hard for me to see the details on metal minis), so I am really looking forward to seeing them painted!

Good news! My paints have arrived (3 weeks after ordering - curses buying cheap on the internet!).
Bad news - no painting done yet.
Good news! I've finished converting the team as my Impact! catchers mitts arrived.

I've patched up all the weapon snips and shield boss areas, and added a Kroot shoulder pad to each player. I've also spent some time finishing off the catchers. Anyway, pics:

Blitzers and the recently purchased 'Kroxigor'

All the Linemen now complete with pads.

This guy is my favourite. I found the crown of feathers in my bits box (I think it's from a Mordheim Amazon), and my crude sculpting on his arm and hand is just about acceptable! I changed the position of his left arm from the original pic as it looked a bit weird once the mitt had been added.

A new mitt, new headgear and a flamboyant feather for this fella.

Finally the team shot - I present the Ixtachan Jumpstarts:

Painting to commence soon!

I've looked very hard to find a suitable similar looking and age figure for the Krox, and so far no luck! As it is, the starting team is 11 slann and the krox will be a later addition to the squad. I'll keep looking - some of those old trolls have potential.

Great looking 'old-skool' team you have there. Loving the way your Krox fits in with the rest of the froggies.

Do GW actually run any tournaments anymore? Over here (UK) you can't even play BB in a GW store!

Hmmm as a push you could use the current slann mage priest model? maybe green stuff some 'magical tendrils' to use as prehensile tail?
