Talk Fantasy Football

I've been wanting to put together a completely unique team, drawn from lots of different non-GW miniature companies and with a great overriding theme , for a good whiel now. I asked for help picking my next team, and you guys answered: Chaos Pact. Then, thanks to Jonny P's thread, I found my visual inspiration with the British Bulldog, Davey Boy Smith's, Union Jack. By making it pink and black, I had a Slaaneshi-themed team. Pink and black, of course, is the Hart Foundation's (among others) colours, something that Davey Boy was a large part of both in and out of the ring.

Ding. That was the light-bulb going off. Cue watching a lot of 90s Pro Wrestling, then some designing of an appropriate logo for my team, The Hart Perversion. A little bit overboard, perhaps, but hey, Slaanesh appreciates dedication to art...



As with all the pick-up and League games we play at Portal, it is a 1.1mil team. I'm only picking the Troll and the Ogre, because I'm not a fan of using Minotaurs, and their 400k total is just too much for the team to bear. I like the idea of playing with all three Renegades and risking the Animosity rolls, turning the Marauders into a bashy/grindy unit while the Renegades do the run, pass and catching when required.

My proposed team, for which any comments from Pact players would be appreciated:
Jenny-Anne Ville - Chaos Ogre (Goblinforge's Micheline Tenderness model, inspired by Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart)
Monty Throwgob - Chaos Troll (Impact's female Ice Troll model, probably, with the Montreal Screwjob in mind.)
Owattintha Blublazes - Goblin Renegade (Neomics' Goblin with the cape, to imitate Owen Hart's Blue Blazer)
Davey Boy Shornaal - Dark Elf Renegade (Goblinforge's Handsome Johnny, with Bulldog's Union Jack trousers)
The Mouse of the South - Skaven Renegade (Impact's Gnoll Safety, playing Jimmy Hart without the megaphone)
China Whyte, Natty Ville, Trish Bashus, Polly Dolly, Vihktora, Fancy Feeta, Ghrond Kim & Sherri Sensation - 8 Marauders (Impact's Valkryies, imitating 8 of my favourite female wrestlers)

The only problem with getting a hold of all these miniatures is that the team will be at least double the cost of a standard GW team. I won't be ordering the team until I'm a little richer at the end of the month! Until then, though, I'll be Photoshopping pics to get my colour scheme sorted, and may even chuck a random test miniature (random as in... Imperial Guard figure) in there, before a full set of updates.

I'm still trying to find a more exciting mini for the Skaven than the Gnoll Safety... I was thinking of the Gaspez Mice but I'd keep them for an Underworld side. The Black Widows Naga Widowmaker is appealing, but I can't really picture her as a 7-3-3-7 piece, nor explaining that 'Yes, she's the Skaven' every time. I think. Model is cool, though.

One of my customers calls me Anvil's lovechild due to my huge pointy goatee, as he was one of my favourite wrestlers growing up I don't mind at all!!!

This team sounds awesome!

And regarding the Anvil....there are a ton of Blood Bowl coaches looking like him nowadays....

...so ahead of his time, unlike their theme music.

I doubt I'll spoil Micheline's perfection with a beard, but I'm thinking of experimenting with Green Stuff (and back to my Sculpture days at school) for the first time in order to give him pink-white-black beads on the tips of his hair, as well as seeing how many pairs of purple wrap-around shades I can add to the players.

One of my friends has just decided to turn his ZZ Top/Jim Neidhart beard into a platinium blond Scott Steiner beard. Big Poppa Pump is back!

So far the status of this team is: Ogre, Dark Elf and Marauders are now ordered, from the wonder emporium of ffstore.it, just the Troll, Gobbo and Skaven still to order, the models and characters that I'm least solid on. Until then they could still play as an Amazon, Norse or even Chaos team (with some extra bits and bobs).

With some more playing in Photoshop of various webstore promotional images, this is what I'll be aiming for... thar be concept art ahead!

Micheline Tenderness, playing Jenny-Anne Ville:
Pink top, black bottoms. If anyone is to get the Anvil beard of greenstuff, then it's the Gobbo she's carrying. I have in mind, however, painting him wearing white trousers with broken red hearts on them. Making him either Michaels or Neidhart would work nicely here, though.



Handsome Johnny, playing Davey Boy Shornaal:
Undecided on blond or black hair (black won't stand out brilliantly with the rest of the black on him), and either a white or pink shirt.



Impact's Valkyrie team, playing varous Marauders:
With the pink and black being used interchangeably on the tops, gloves, as well as a mixture of thongs & pants, with some occasional hair colour denoting who's who (Nattie Ville with a bit of pink, Fancy Feeta with red, etc).

Love it.

Update: In preparation for the models to arrive from Italy, I've gone and bought myself some of the Vallejo paints (thanks Maelstrom Games) to get the right pink colour, as if there's one thing I can't stand, it's having to mix my paints to get the exact colour I want. So, I've picked up three shades of pink in the Vallejo range to paint straight onto them as shadow, main and highlight. I'm going to experiment with them a bit before getting to the real models, and we'll see how that goes.

Michele, Johnny and the Valkyries arrived this morning, hot off the plane from Italy. Cue removing the flash and mould lines, and then I'll undercoat them. The little test I did (on a Space Marine shinpad, of all things) came out nicely, and I think I've picked the right pink-y colours. Now I've just got to learn how to highlight Black properly(!)

Oh, and Micheline is one sexy bitch

On highlighting black: Start with very subtle highlights, then suddenly make a big jump to something like Codex Grey for a very fine last highlight. That's how I do it and I like how the last highlight makes the first ones visible.

I like clean, simple painting - and I hate having to mix (hell, or even thin down) colours every time I want to do something. Usually I'm a Base-wash-highlight guy, but with the three Vallejo pinks (Magenta as shade, Pink as first highlight and Old Rose as extreme highlight) I've got the right sort of balance here. I'm very pleased with how it's turned out on the Valkyrie, the Gobbo has only had one layer, but the Ogre needs a little more blending on the pink to get it quite right.

Minor update, as I've not been able to devote any time to painting since those three above.

I've ordered the Impact female Ice Troll, as well as the 'Wondervince' Goblin to mix and match with the Jimmy Hart megaphone one (they'll surely die very quickly), who I'm going to attempt to Green Stuff holding a WWE belt above his head. Still undecided on a Skaven/Rat/Etc model.

I've come up with a bit off fluff/bio around the team, too, and I'll be entering Zlurpcast's team theme competition (for the Battlefoam C4 bag) with them, too. See how much I can get done before their competition closes!

Random theme updates: 'Monty' Throwgob will now become Mindy Throwgob, in keeping with being a female troll and all, while the Mouse of the South concept has moved over to a Goblin, because Gobbos always make more comedy characters. My Owen Hart/Blue Blazer idea is also out the window, just because I like the Wondervince model so much. The Skaven model is now something that every group of women should have: a rampant rabbit. Ahem.

Hopefully a bit more painting on Monday/Tuesday to show you.
