Here's what was posted on the Forum of Doom website;
Big Boris wrote:Stand by for pics of a new football model very soon. I was hitting a 'sculptor's block' with finishing some ofhte others on my desk so to cheer myself up I've done an ogre. I'm just trying to decide how best to work in another figure to the model, more details later.

Chris (my apprentice) is currently having a bash at some rules for Morican Deathball, a popular game in the kingdom of Morica, which is ruled by Dark Duke Henry the Red. He enjoys pitting teams of slaves prisoners and gladiators against those of his neighbouring Dark lords and even his favoured lieutenants, all in the name of Baal, the netherlord and patron of that particular kingdom. The teams objectives are to place the heads/inflated organs of sacrifical victims into a stone goal, carved into the mouth of Baal himself, whilst at the same time killing or maiming as many of the opposing Dark Lord's fighters as possible with only bare hands or 'small' weapons such as katars and spiked armour.

It's going to be a very simple 'bash' game revolving around the use of heroquest-style dice (I might get some made, with skulls etc on instead of numbers) and half a dozen players on each side at any one time. Perhaps if it's popular we can do more complicated stuff like campaign rules and experience, in the meantime it's aimed to be a beer game...and yes, there will be more figures coming for it once it's written, i intend to do ones for all the adventurers, for a start, a new boris and especially a new minotaur and troll at some point. maybe even demons...!

Andy
This is great news, more minis to use for BB (and who knows, maybe after he gets more of the rules done, this Morican Deathbowl might not be too bad to play itself, we shall see). :wink:

You can see the Deathball ogres on the Heresy website. Just click on the Work In Progress link and scroll down past the new Big Boris. They look great!

Those are fantastic! I like the GW Ogres, but these are MUCH better!

Here's the Deathball Write Up:

Deathball is a popular gladiatorial pit-fighting variant that takes place in the Kingdom of Morica, ruled by Dark Duke Henry the Red. Teams of Prisoners, Slaves and monstrous creatures are pitted against each other with only the minimum of weapons to rely upon. Some sort of ball , magical item or even a sacrificial victim is placed in the arena and the two teams must fight each other to place the ball/whatever into a stone altar carved into the face and gaping maw of the Dark Duke's patron Fallen One. The more blood that is spilt and sacrifices placed upon the altar, the more rewards the winning team's master will receive. Any surviving combatants may even one day earn their freedom and the right to serve the Dark Duke as one of his Lieutenants.

Oooooh, the ogres are very nice, again with the trademark 'action pose' style of Heresy. Can't wait to see the game as well :)

I detect similarities to a certain barbarian...I wonder if Andy hasn't taken a couple of short cuts there. Whatever. They're really rather nice.

they look as if they will have multi-part options to me... and I've always liked Andy's sculpting style... mmm, me likes a lot!! :D

if only they would implement a decent Ogre roster without goblins I'd be happy... :-?

Seperate Arms-torso-hands-head-legs. 7 bits - like Boris.
