purity seal over metal

Hi,

I recently painted one of the new ogres, and after a lot of hard labour (well, ok, just somewhat more trouble than I anticipated; not actual hard labour...) it looks really nice (me thinks).

So, yesterday, I went out to the store to buy a can of Purity Seal as the hole of the spraycan of the varnish I used to use always gets stuffed after some (normal) use. I gave my ogre a nice coat, but now all the metal areas (quite some) are really dull and the shadowing on the metal seems to have been dimished as well. Has any of you ever experienced something similar? What was your solution?

I think I'm going to try and get some brush-on shiny varnish and see if that can save my fig. Anyone ever tried that?

In the uk there have been some problems with GW spray varnish, I ruined a complete Mordheim gang (they went white/dull) and phoned GW who knew about the issue and replaced my stuff, gave me extra stuff and were generally excellent about it. Except that the next can was also bad... I now use Vallejo brush on varnish because I'm paranoid about sprays.

I've noticed that some varnish doesn't seem to work very well with metalics. I always brush some glossy on to it after wards.

Is the Vallejo varnish glossy or mat?

Vallejo do gloss, matt and satin all to brush on. They also do spray versions but, due to the my newly acquired fear, I haven't tried them.
