IMHO the skin disappears a little or looks unfinished due to to the white colour scale. I think you could work miracles with a flesh wash (although try it on an unfinished model first  ).
I'll blame that on over exposure on the photo (or my poor photography skills!). The skin has had 5 thinned washes of purple and one of green and looks good in real life. There's also a lot more contrast between the black cloth and pale skin. You'll just have to trust me that it looks fine in real life and I really don't want to add another darker wash :)
I'll take your word for it.

Looks awesome with paint. As mentioned before, the wearwolf conversion tops your line. I expect you want to finish that last, when you've tried the color scheme on the rest of the team?

Thanks! Historically I tend to be a cherry-pick painter - I do all the exciting figures first then finish off all the boring ones with less attention to detail :) This time I'll try and avoid that approach, partly helped that I actually like all the models and there are no boring ones :P I'll be aiming to paint the models in pairs as it helps with consistancy. At the ghouls are undercoated, it will be them next, followed probably by another pair of zombies. Then perhaps the wights, another pair of zombies, the werewolves and finally the flesh golem. At my basic painting rate (one model every 2-3 hours, 1 evening painting a week), we'll probably hit the werewolves at some point mid-March!

That should then give me just over a month to paint up the display base and counters

Two weeks passed since the last update and I'm happy to say I can give an update - unfortunately not 2 ghouls as advertised, but 1 is better than none!

Image

I really struggled with the skin on this guy - it was repainted twice until I got to the point where I'm satisfied. Thankfully I was using thin washes or the detail might have been lost. I think the yellow straps are an important element in tying the team together as the varying black and green parts might have made them all a bit estranged from each other.

2nd ghoul should be done by the weekend (but no promises!)

And now with a 2nd ghoul, just a few days later than promised. I fancy doing a werewolf next ;)

I've made a little more progress with the team and painted up the first werewolf:

Image

Note, I'm happy with the paint job, not with the photography - I guess that's partly due to the model being a real pig to take a photo of, and partly due to some contrast issues! I'm not sure that brown fur was the right choice for the model - grey may have worked better, but brown is true to the original artwork inspiration, and I'm not repainting him :)

I love him.
You could try to bring some more contrast in the fur by adding a very light grey in some places, maybe the tail, around his mouth etc

ax, is the green colour consistent across the whole team? it could be the photography, but it looks like you're gradually getting lighter with every successive model.. :-?

I'll be brutally honest and say I find the wolf a little disappointing.. the sculpting and conversion work was awesome, but the paint-job is just kind of OK. Sorry m8... :(

The Werewolf mini is fantastic

If any mini company produced a fantasy football werewolf in that pose I'd snap it up in a heart beat

Thanks guys - interesting to get very opposed comments ;)

Not a problem - all feedback is good feedback! Just to give some context, I love converting, enjoy playing and dislike painting. I have no illusions that I am just a competent painter - I can paint neat, tabletop stuff, but as a general rule don't have the inclination or ability to produce paint jobs of really high quality. The reaction to the wolf conversion was great, but I can honestly say that no-one is ever going to be blown away by a paint job I produce - and I have no problem with that :)

As for the first point, regarding colour, the method and paints are exactly the same - I can only put it down to photography. Here's a shot of all 5 players together:

Nice idea - I'll have a look and see what might work :)

the team shot helps, they are better in a group than individually, but that goes for many things, like naked lesbians..

the yellow stripe needs a dark outline to make it pop I think.. probably too late now that half the team is finished  but just a suggestion for future reference. Dave is right on mixing up the fur slightly.. either with a greyish tone or a lighter brown/beige colour. Wouldn't take too much effort (fur being kinda forgiving that way) and would help to make his body not disappear into the background so much...

Right then, I took half an hour yesterday evening to try and improve the werewolf paintjob:

Image

I repainted the lower legs, ears and lip with a more fleshy tone to break up some of the monotonous brown. I gave the tail and cheek fur a dry brush with some grey, and added some subtle edges to the helmet stripes (which I also did to the zombies). I also dropped the bloody thing on my desk and spent 15 minutes searching for the a helmet spike and shoulder spike on the carpet. The repairs aren't as good as the original gluing, but should pass anything other than up close scrutiny!

Any better?

Oh - I also used a different background for the last 2 photos - a pale blue - does it work better?
