Fluff poll :) The 'open' format of the 'League' format?

While we're on poll central, here's my first one :)

From the fluff (background information) did you prefer the 2nd edition fluff about the league with the tables, conferences etc or the new 'open format' fluff where teams are more displaced?

Personally, I preferred the old 2nd edition league fluff, just felt more solid than the open championship.. But that's just me

Definitely preffered the old fluff, but it makes more sense for real-life leagues to use the open format.

I think that each was best for it's time. I like how they evolved into what they are but wish it was more like 2nd. Though I understand the need to update it to the open format.

Yeah for me my first post!!
No more trolling for me. 8)

I disagree with that. If you want a balanced league, a closed format is primordial.

That's just plain short sighted, Zombie. The open format works every bit as well as the scheduled format.

It's unbalanced in that if you have more time to play, and can get more games under your belt, your team is better.

Teams should be rewarded for more effort. If you don't have time to play then you don't care if you win the championship.

And scheduled leagues favor high scoring teams who advanced faster.

They both have advantages and disadvantages. This is just one of those situations where you need to realize that your way is not the only way.

we play a mix...an open style with a maximum games per week. come in, play whoever is available whenever you have time, but no more than 3 times a week. Keeps people with no lives from playing 50 games while people with a job and girlfriend/wife can only play 1... :)

best of both worlds imo

I think that's what most leagues do. Just cap # of games played.

That's just not true. Just because someone has less time available doesn't mean he can't go after the championship. The winner should be determined by who's the best coach, not who's got the most time on his hands. Besides, why play if you know that you can't win?

That's what we do to. I call it semi-closed. But we keep the number of games low enough so that most people can find the time to play them. Typically, it's somewhere around 6 and 8 for a single season.

Ask this to a Halfling Coach... The answer can be surprising.

It ain't any fun when there's zero chance to win.
