Fan Factor Downward Spiral

Post by Fronko »

Hi Folks!

I have encountered a problem. Once a somewhat experienced team suffers from loss of FF (by rolling a few ones on the FF roll) it is going to get into trouble.

While your team rating keeps on going up a bit every game (every game you'll at least collect the MVP), you get less and less money. This means you can't buy new players/rerolls etc., and your overall team performance will suffer. That means you will lose more games and probably lose some more FF. At a certain point you just can't recover and can only discard your team.

Is it just my bad luck on FF and money rolls or do you also experience this?

I do not think it is that drastic a situation. Bad luck on the FF roll aside there is a reasonable amount of space in the Winnings table to go up in TR without losing out on the cash too early on. And even later on with <250 TR you only need 80,000+ fans from the gate to get a straight D6 on winnings if you win.

Buying rerolls is always expensive in the league but if you do have a problem with an inflated TR then try to cut out the "dead wood". Got a lineman with an injury or a failed ageing roll on first advance? Consider replacing him. And do not forget the so called "God" players with many SPPs to their names. Possibly you made a skill choice which did not pan out and while still good the player is contributing alot to Rating without perhaps carrying that load.

Recent example of my own, Beastman with Sure Hands, +1AG, Block, and Dump Off (with -1 MV Ageing). Now Dump Off turned out to be a mistake against the agility based teams I am facing so I cut the player. He was still good, but with 60 SPPs he was not going to advance again soon and would drop 18 points out of the TR if I cut him, so I did. I replaced him with a fresh beastman and already had two other Sure Hands players being advanced to replace him if he had died so the team as a whole could continue with more money and less handicap penalties.

So do not get too disheartened. Just be a little more ruthless in managing TR and try to win big to get the bonuses to the winning table and FF.

TR will peak somewhere around TR250 mark under the current rules. In fact what we have seen at the ECBBL is that its a real struggle to keep improving your team once TR hits 200. Effectively you don't hire any new players (just replacements) and TR only creeps up very slowly.

My Orc teams TR finished with only 40 pts more after 17 games.
