Stat decreases and death?

Has anyone noticed it is easier to die, than to lose a stat? Last season we had 20 or so deaths in slightly over 120 games played. Yet only 3 players had stat loss, during the same time period.

Is this the way it normaly works?

From unmodified cas:

Chance of death 2.7%
Chance of stat loss 0.9%

You're right, I'd never noticed this before. Of course this doesn't account for aging.

Also you have to remember that in a lot of cases a stat loss is just a death with the chance to gain an assistant coach.

Many people seem to treat the two as the same thing. Well at least auto-retire those players who get a stat decrease. As for the odds, you make a good point, i had never really considered that.

The chance to get a death is 3 times that to get a stat decrease. However, the chance of the apothecary being used on a death is higher than on a stat decrease, which compensates somewhat, but probably not completely.

At the end of the day does it really matter? Czu if you are saying that you sould be more likely to get a stat decrese than death I'll ask why and what you are using as your model? Are you saying that in real life a player would die less than that? :P

I'm happy the way it is. I'd rather have the player die than get a ST decrease.

Also, you can't assign a universal importance to the severity of the injuries and how they affect the player. You need to take into account that an AG decrease is almost meaningless to Trolls, Black Orcs, Long Beards, Trolls Slayers, Zombies, Skeletons, Mummies, etc. and likewise for MA. ST and AV are the only almost universally equal penalty in the Stat decrease category.

It's more fun to have a player killed than to lose stats.

In addition, those little players deserve to be carried away from the pitch with their boots first, rather than being retired, begging for food and money in the alleys of big cities... "A coin for a retired blood bowl blitzer who lost a point of ST, mister?"
Such a tragedy makes me cry
Much rather have them die an honorable death!

Even that's not quite true. An offensive thrower, for instance, doesn't care at all if he loses one point of ST or AV.

I actually seem to lose stats more than get players killed :o

My opponent recently manages do SI 8 out of 9 injuries. He threw 8!! '4's' on the injury table

That's why I said it's an "almost" universally equaly penalty. But even a coach of an offensive only thrower still would be dissappointed over an ST or AV decrease because it opens him up for a blitz from goblins, gutter runners and human catchers. Not good.

I agree there.

I just got TWO ST decreases on WE lineman. I can't retire them due to a lack of players.

One of em got Blodge the other day, let's see how long that keeps him alive..

I don´t mind getting stat decreases. It gives more characteristic to the player. For example, i have on my skaven team a vermin with ag 1 and a lineman with an ag of 1 too. Though if the vermin wouldn´t have block, frenzy and mighty blow or the linerat wouldn´t have Dirty Player, Block, Tackle and Razor sharp claws, I would of course retire both of them.

I just think it´s fun when you have players that are good in some things but can´t do something else at all.

I dont feel that way at all, i hate having st 2 catchers, i sure would hate my thrower becoming st 2 as well. Losing av is always major bad to me, i think of that as making the player an instant target. On the other hand i never consider losing a point of mv as a bad thing, just a minor annoyance. Strangely enuf, i have had more -1 mv's than anything else.

That's probably because you don't use your thrower the same way as mine. I keep mine far enough in the back of my zone that nobody can blitz him. Once i advance him, it's to throw the ball and score on the same turn, so there's no way to blitz him. For teams that don't score in 2 turns and use a running game instead, after my first turn my thrower is deep in my half and the ball is near the center, so again he's not a target.

The only time strength matters for an offensive thrower in one of my teams is if something goes wrong and i have to fall back on defense after losing the ball. Then it could be nice to have an extra strength on my sweeper downfield.

What if your MV-3 Mummy loses one? You gotta roll to stand up then, that would be pretty bad, though since he'd stay on the ground longer, he'd probably die and stay dead alot quicker after the stat decrease.

Stat decreases pretty much suck all around, but they're suppose to, right? And certainly certain players could live easier with certain decreases.

Zombie: you're pretty much right. As long as the offensive play goes well. However, as the probability of failing that play always exists, losing especially ST is an incentive for retiring him...
