Should the NAF allow "classic" Undead teams in NAF-sanctioned tourneys (post october)?

NAF and the Undead

Post by Darkson »

It looks very likely (definetly?) as if GW is going to retire the "classic" Undead team in this October's rules review, to be replaced by the Khemri/Necro/Vamp teams.

I don't want to get into a discussion about the right or wrongs of this, but should the NAF allow the classic roster to still be allowable in NAF sanctioned tournaments (though obviously not GW run ones)?

Where is everyone getting this information? Why would anyone ditch the tried and true Undead team for the 3 messed up ones?

Aye, aye, keep 'em! They're good, but not unbalanced. And what's more, they're fun to play.

There have been a few posts on this kind of topic of late. It seems that GW simply can't leave the game alone, wether they need to sell more minis or something. I don't think there is much wrong with the current undead team (piling on mummy maybe), so why all the changes all of a sudden?

Absolutely!

Games Workshop seems determined to bring the game of BB into line with the ever changing game of WHFB. Personally I play both games, but do not wish to see this happen.

The current Undead team is a classic and well balanced to-boot. I would not perhaps be adverse to seeing the new teams come in (in greatly revised format) but would not like to see the current Undead sacrificed to see it happen.

I am unsure what most peoples' thoughts are on the current unofficial Pact teams, but I know the Undead are not represented there. If nothing else I would push for the current Undead to be made the Undead Pact team. It is in effect what they are, and they at least are already known to be balanced.

Keep them as the undead "Allies" team. They can be the pact team for the undead.

I think the new undead teams are crap, and have no business in BB. You want Khemri? Have them as an alternate set of figs for Undead. Blitz-ra=Wight. Drop Thow-ra, add Run-Ra=Ghoul. Pretty simple, sell new figs, avoid pissing people off. Necro undead are just stupid, if you really want add a star player Frankenstein and Werewolf.

Well, I'll come out and say it right now. Regardless of what Fanatic/BBRC decide in October, the "classic" Undead roster will always be legal in any league/tournament me/our group runs. We may bring in the other rosters, but this one will stay.

I really hink the NAF should keep tracking it, what harm does it do, after all Andy (or JJ?) likes the idea of the hobbyist taking control of their game.

Well JJ specifically said at the seminar that it has been decided to take BB away from the WFB world, hence the appearance of the Ogres in sports gear rather than chain mail. And if it was matching the WFB world then Chaos & Norse would be rolled into one, C. Dwarf would be dropped, Necromantic would be rolled into Vampires and there is no need to release new elf models as we already have High, Wood & Dark ones.

I think GW for once need a bit of slack, they are releasing great new figures, and Jervis hsa admitted that the game is better because of sites like this and the NAF that will take the rules, try them and tweak them rather than simply saying "I hate them, it's broke" and walking away. Every time something new comes out people invariably say it's rubbish/unbalanced/looks crap but after a while we learn to play against it, and can appreciate it a little more. Look at the Ogres - they may currently be too powerful, but after some tweaking we will get them under control. Remember as well, we are in this game for the fun of it, unless you're a power gamer, so where is the harm in playing a few matches with a team of ogres?!

FFS at least we are getting decent stuff & support from fanatic - comparing the other specialist games, the level of support/interest is tiny compared to that of BB.

Indigo, I think you may be missing my point slightly. I'm not knocking GW/Fanatic/BBRC for bringing out more teams, hell, I'm glad their fianlly giving the game the support it deserves. I just can't see the reason for dropping the "classic" roster. I mean, according to JJ we're going to have 4 rosters of elves soon, and IMO, their all pretty similar, so why can't we have 4 rosters of Undead, especially as 2 of them will have major differences?

I think MistWraith has got it. Just call it the Undead Pact team and keep it as it is.

It'd be the only Pact team that isn't broken them, from what I understand of the Pacts on this board anyway.

C. Dwarf would be dropped
Actually in other news, the C Dwarves will definately getting their own Army book in the future, i believe it is on the official GW pages, i could be confused, but they are coming back. The Squats are dead however for sure, tho space dwarves may be made (i thot squats were space dwarves but obviously im wrong).

By the way i voted Yes.

Andy H hinted strongly that the Undead will not vanish before the 2005 Rules review. (second seminar)

Still don't see the problem with changing the name of the current mummies to "Flesh Golems" and pretty much retaining the old Undead roster (minus skeletons) as the necro roster. Its looking like the Khemri mummies will be something new as it is.

SImple, with a minimum of new mini buying...oh...hang on... :pissed:
