BB mag and subscriptions
I've heard from the manager of my local store that all the specialist mags are soon to become/have become "splash releases" i.e. they will only print enough to make about 3 or 4 for each store, and enough for subscriptions.
Seems like a good idea on their part to secure business, as well as prevent overproduced unnecessary mags... makes getting them overseas a pain though.
All I'm saying is it may be a good time to get a subscription if you can... £12 UK prices... BUT when I last applied for one, the actual response from the MO Troll was
"Don't bother, the BB mag subscription system is shot to hell, it's a waste of time trying to get a subscription. They might be jacking it in anyway"
Not sure how much I believe this but I thought I'd share it

Another nice response from the idiots at mail order.
If it hasn't been proved already that there is the appeal for a blood bowl magazine then I don't know what they want. If they can't sort out a simple Subscription system (how much harder is it than a list of addresses and dates?)...I despair.
If they're REALLY thinking like that then do a fanatic magazine covering all the fanatic systems. I'd buy a mag even if it only had a little BB content. Hell...I used to buy Citadel journal.

Tell you what Dav, I'll have a root around and see what I can dig up. I'll bring em over to the BB with me and you can have em for the cost of a pint if there's anything you want.
(I just realised something...we all refer to BB...in Swedish thats the widely accepted abbreviation for maternity hospital. Does this mean we really ARE all just a bunch of - in Davin's case REALLY - big kids?)

Honestly I wouldn't mind the subscription only system. IF I could get one!!
But in the US I was told by GW that I can't get one. And for those over here that have signed up for one through GWUK don't seem to get the mag until well after it is available in my local store.
So at this point it isn't worth my getting a subscription, so I will just have to keep hoping that I can grab it from my local hobby shop, that isn't a GW store either...

Personally I haven't seen anything in the mags to justify the outrageous price. The rules are slapped together and broken, the paper quality is cheap, and the damn thing is a chore to get! So why would I bother?
But saying so, makes me a "son of a bitch" to the BBRC...yeah, that makes me want to buy one.

Well fun is relative. lol I liked some of the stuff I've heard about and maybe I wouldn't be so down on them if they came in my mail for $7 a month. But's that's just now what happens.
To me "fun" means that the using the rules doesn't cause a break down of the league.

I'm a big proponent of the old-style cards, myself...I love the "wackiness" of BB that seems to have been lost as of late...I mean...arguing that the Khemri and Ogres are too strong is fun and all...but that's so "40k".
I've always expected more "fun" and less "your army is overpowered" from BB and that attitude seems to be waning against the tide of rules-arguments.

Well my league enjoyed the competeitive nature of Blood Bowl. We liked to win or lose fairly.
Most of the rules in those magazines are severely biased towards one team or against another. Some seem to be created for the sole purpose of harming one team or another.

I dunno how you can say a little guy who runs on asking for an autograph is harming to any specific team.
I just enjoy my seriousness in 40k, Necromunda, and all those such games, m'self. I look to Blood Bowl for the sillyness. (And really...Orks and Amazons and Chaos playing a bit of football/rugby? Who could take that seriously?)
But then, that's (IMO) the great fun of Blood Bowl...it's a game you can take silly or serious very easily and without much of an attitude change or a decision between serious=winner, fun=loser like games like 40k.

Anything I say is totally opinion and (knowing my luck) probably completely wrong. Keep this in mind.
