NAF and PBeM
When the NAF's up and running will PBeM or Java games against other NAF members count towards the ratings, or only "face-to-face" tabletop games?

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Thanks neo. I probably only get to 1 or 2 torneys a year, so be nice to still play for ranking points.

I hate to be a grumpy gus but...
Doesn't it kinda favor the English coaches since most of the big tourneys happen in England and the rest of Europe? I mean, I may make it to The Blood Bowl once in my life but I'm sure Deathwing will be there everytime!
Yes there are tourneies in the Americas but it's a little different. I can't make it to Canada every other month in the summer. Going to Canada for me is probably like Deathwing going to Norway...
Anyway, gripe done.

I know there is a Blood Bowl being held in Baltimore... but it was sold out by the time I heard about it. And its only a 45 min. flight from here.
And I have a good friend that lives there as well. Might still go and see if I can sneak in...
However, Gen Con in Indy might be doable... IF I didn't have a newborn due to arrive in June/July...
Oh, well... maybe someday I will get to THE Blood Bowl...before I get too old to play.

Dunno what we can do about that mate. There's just a denser population over here. Having said that we do travel to play, it may only be an hour's flight from London to Amsterdam for example, but it's still passports, customs and all the other attendant crap that flying between countries entails. We went July and again this weekend to play.Pariah wrote:I hate to be a grumpy gus but...

This year in the US (that I know of so far) there's been Neo's Underworld Cup, FantiCon, there's GenCon coming up, a sold out tourney in Baltimore, plus the official 'Chaos Cup' at Gamesday Chicago. I know they're spread far and wide, but here ain't a lot that can be done about the US being so big.
Besides, you're only about as far from Chicago as I am from Nottingham (200 miles-ish?), right?
As for favouring NAF rankings wise, they go down as well as up...my Orc rating is below starting point after this weekend...anybody who submits a one-off game will be higher than me even if they lost, because of the K value. I reckon I dropped something around 8 points this weekend, you have to lose a lot of one-off games to drop that many...so it's a double edged sword.

Well I was just bitching for bitching's sake but here's how it breaks down for me.
Question first: How much does it cost you to fly to Amsterdam? I tell you what if Anthony invited me to his house the last thing I'd do is book a flight! Yeesh! What are you, made of money? I don't want to call you ignorant but I don't think you realize just how big the US & Canada are. I don't need a passport to go to a TBBF tourney...well technically I do but nobody is going to see it if I drive. I would however have to drive my 1991 Mazda 626 with 100K+ miles on it for 11 hours just to get there! That's nearly 1300 miles round trip! (How wide is England?) By car it would cost me about $80 in gas. (Unless I bring a friend and cut in half.) As you can see the problem isn't money. The problem is 22 freakin hours on the road! I would need to go over a weekend mostly and that's nearly half of the 2 days just on the road! And the TBBF is relatively close! Any tournies on the coasts are out of the question! Now by air it would cost me about $150-$200 to go from Chicago to Toronto. (depending on how soon you book it and all that) That's not including the 3 hour drive to Chicago and storage of my car for 2 or 3 days. I can get a flight from the Q.C. airport to Chicago but you might as well add on another $50-75 for that.
So what I'm saying is not that it's impossible for me to go to these things but I'm not gonna be doing it more than once every couple of years if I'm lucky! I have family in other parts of the country that I like to visit too! That makes me wonder why someone like me would want to join the NAF. I have no shot at any sort of decent ranking just because I can't get to more than one tourny a year...okay wait aminute let me do it this way.
I guess my question is this;
Coach 'D' lives in GW's backyard, Coach 'P' lives in Antarctica. Coach D through no fault of his own is able to attend every tourny he wants because he is a rich Blood Bowl playing millionare playboy.
Coach P has enough money for the net connection to play it by email in his little shack.
Is Coach D going to have a much better NAF ranking simply because he can go to GW tounaments more often? IF so, then what is Coach P's motivation to join the NAF (outside of really cool dice)?

Going to a NAF event or even lots doesn't give you a good ranking. The NAF isn't going to be for everybody, some people might not have any interest in going to a tournament, even if they could do.
Of course if there aren't any tournaments near you, there is always the option to get off your butt and try and motivate some support to get one local to you.
For the record I think that the weekend in amsterdam cost me £200 all in.
